How a Fremont Pit-House can Cool the Air without Electricity | Ancient AC Systems are so Amazing!
This video shows you How a Fremont Pit-House can cool the air without electricity. As you can see in the video, JF and JB are pleasantly surprised at how comfortable a Fremont Pit-House is in the heat of the day.
In Cedar City, Utah, It is 86 degrees outside, but sitting inside a Fremont Indian Pit House replica it is really cool. This pit house is situated around two feet below the surface, which is the first thing you will notice about it. You will also observe that, despite the frame being constructed of wobbly cedar logs, the entire exterior of the structure looks to be covered in some sort of sod or mud. Therefore sitting inside this pit house you will feel like you are in an enormous underground cavern.
The most amazing thing you can find in this Pit-House is that this building is actually self-air-conditions. In the back, you can see that there is a clay channel running down from the outside into the main chamber of the house. If you look at the channel, which runs up into the outside, you can really see that it is drawing a breeze downward because it is this downward-sloping ramp. Since cool air naturally sinks, the pit house, which is already insulated and cool, is being filled with the region's coolest air. The opening in the roof, which also serves as a smoke exit for the fire, allows all of the hot air to leave simultaneously. Naturally, entering through the main entrance requires descending into the ground, which causes the chilly air to sink once more.
In this video, an old technology is highlighted, demonstrating how surprisingly effective it is. Do you believe that the cost of your summer air conditioning is too high? Consider hiring someone to excavate a tunnel beneath your home, then simply dipping the entire building a few feet deeper. And also, in order to get the most out of the ancient air conditioning, be sure to knock the hole in the wall.
