Eltz Castle in Germany: Would you like to visit?
Eltz Castle (German: Burg Eltz), known as “the most beautiful castle in Europe”, a “fairy tale in stone” and the epitome of a knight’s castle, narrates the story of a 900-year adventure.
Eltz Castle is located between Koblenz and Trier in Germany, on the hills above the Moselle. The Eltz family, who have lived there since the 12th century, still own it. The only extant castles in the Eifel region are Eltz Castle, Bürresheim Castle, and Lissingen Castle.
The castle stands on a 70-meter (230-foot) high granite spur surrounded on three sides by the Elzbach, a Moselle tributary on the north side. The adjoining Eltz Forest has been designated as a natural reserve by Flora-Fauna-Habitat and Natura 2000.
Visiting the place, many people wonder what it could be like if they lived in the castle themselves. In this video, Hannah Hummel from DW Travel talks with the castle's owner, Jakob Graf zu Eltz, about life in the castle back then and now.
