On the the next country - GERMANY! Our Van Life Europe trip continues in Custard the bus as we visit Stuttgart and Frankfurt. After a shaky start on the motorway and a quick stop in the garage Custard makes it through the black forest to explore some of Germany's coolest cities - hitting up Oktoberfest in September (LAWL, dont do that) and experience some of Germany's WEIRDEST museums.. no joke!
What is happening guys, we are Craig and Amy and you are watching Kingenet and we have
made it to Germany.
If you are brand new to our channel we are in the middle of a fabulous road trip through
Europe.
Somewhere.
So far we have seen some of France's finest, I got instant tan on my legs, explored the
mountains of Switzerland and we are now heading to one of our favourite countries to road
trip, Germany.
Our mode of transport for this adventure is our glorious bus.
A 2001 Mercedes Vario, also known as Custard.
If you are keen for a road trip then Germany has so much to offer.
On our last Eurotunnel trip we explored the wicked city of Cologne, then we headed south
to explore Castle Road for some proper wicked German castle action.
On this trip we will be exploring two brilliant cities, Stuttgart and Frankfurt.
DJ, roll that intro.
This morning we are exploring the stunning city of Stuttgart.
So far it's pretty chilled and relaxed, unlike the start of our Germany adventure.
As we left Switzerland and crossed the border into Germany, we heard a strange sound as
we were driving.
The next thing we knew Custard sounded like a drum and bass concert mixed with a brass
band.
We pulled into a truck stop for the night and the next morning I climbed underneath
to inspect what had happened.
We started off this mesmerising adventure underneath Custard because yesterday she decided
to shed some skin.
So I've got underneath this morning and we've lost a chunk of our exhaust pipe.
We've got this piece here which is supposed to be connected to this piece and we need
to get it repaired.
Custard's it's heart.
But we've broken down in the right place because Custard's actually German.
She's a German whip.
Oh, we're back in the garage.
It's been a while.
I hope they can do it here.
I don't know where she is.
She's like, do you have the part?
I was like, it's on the motorway somewhere.
This ain't the Mongol Rally, babes.
Oh, that's not a face of a happy man.
So, there's three parts that we need.
How much is it going to be?
434 euros.
Jeez.
The other bad news is that they've got to order the part and it won't come until tomorrow,
but they'll be able to fix it by tomorrow afternoon.
So, it's not too bad.
It's just a lot of cash, isn't it?
Cheers, Custard.
Did you start that paper round?
I think we're both going to have to get one when we get home.
This is what we need replacing.
£435 worth.
After Custard was fixed up and now sounded a little bit quieter, we were able to carry
on with the trip.
Morning, lads.
So, we are back on the road after Custard's little malfunction.
She's a little tart sometimes.
Lady of luxury, she is.
She has expensive taste.
It couldn't have just been like a light bulb.
The exhaust fell off somewhere.
And the truck stop was amazing.
They let us use their electric.
They had showers there.
Yeah, we slept there for the night.
In the garage.
So, they were really cool people.
Last night, we made our way to the Black Forest.
There was an incredible sunset as we pulled up to our parking spot.
The sun was dipping below the trees.
There was like vapour coming off them.
It was like a movie scene.
It was so amazing.
So, today we're going to drive through the rest of the Black Forest, see what's happening
and then we're heading to Stuttgart.
We headed to a campsite just outside of the city and drove our electric scooters, Harry
and Marv, to find a breakfast spot.
We ate at a proper trendy cafe called Poppers and sat on the wall like hipsters and ate
some delicious food.
Look at you in your little Latino dress.
You're safe by there, Craig.
But if I go by here...
Cover your eyes!
Kill you dead!
It's warm today.
Okay, first and last time I'll complain, I promise.
Don't start.
I'm excited to explore the city of Stuttgart.
Hang on.
What's the matter?
You know when you get light-headed all of a sudden?
So, we're staying in a campsite about two miles outside of the city.
Hence, Harry and Marv have come with us this morning.
But we're going to get super cultural today, aren't we, Craig?
Our plans are to go to a pig museum, which I could not be more excited about.
My choice, obviously.
And we're going to do some beer tasting at a place...
A place that's in German.
I don't know what it is.
It's like a festival in Stuttgart on Facebook in German.
And I thought, well, why the devil not?
We're in Germany.
So, I think we're going to go.
Cool.
We jumped back on Harry and Marv and made our way to the pig museum.
We thought it was going to be so cute until...
Okay, so we've made it to the pig museum.
Should we just go in and have a really weird time?
So, this was Amy's idea.
Of course it was.
Do you know what?
I just thought it would be really fun.
But now I'm here, I'm terrified.
Are we going to get killed in here?
That's the vibe I'm getting.
This is strange.
It sounds like my nan's house.
I'm not sure about this place.
Oh, whoa.
Look at him.
He's creepy as.
Plenty of props.
I've got to ask the woman who started all this.
How did you even find this place?
I thought it would be lovely.
I was hoping there'd be real pigs here so I could be like...
This is where we die.
This is a nightmare.
That's...
They're not that bad.
They've got lovely eyelashes.
This is a nightmare.
I am not going to sleep tonight.
I mean, look at that.
Like, what is that?
Is that a pig hoover?
Giant chicken pig.
Mobile telecommunications pig.
Prime Minister pig.
Namaste.
Me and Amy when we first met.
So in 1992, this actually made the Guinness World Records
for being the biggest pig museum in the world.
Well done, guys.
I'm in the bathroom and he's like,
I can't pay the rent.
We're going to have to relocate.
Do you reckon all the people at work here go...
You've got a double chin like you, Craig.
All right, we need to get out of here.
Right now.
Wait for me!
All right, we're all pigged out.
So now we're going to do a challenge.
And the challenge is as follows.
This is a throwing disc.
Also known as a pretzel.
So the idea of this challenge is,
it's me versus Amy.
You've got to throw the pretzel
and you've got to land it on the handlebars of the scooter.
As so.
The first one to do it wins.
Is it best of three?
It's going to be quite hard.
So I think the first person who does it wins.
Obviously, if I get it first,
you have to get it second.
And if you don't, I win.
Okay.
And the loser has to wear an outfit
of the other person's choosing
for the whole day.
To wear for the rest of the day.
Sick!
Are you ready?
Oh, yeah.
You're going down, mate.
I love these challenges, Craig.
They make my day.
Even though I lose the majority of the time.
One, two, three.
Yes, bro.
Give it to me.
There she goes.
She's stepping up to the plate
with a pretzel.
Will she do it?
Check how excited you are.
It's like sports day, Craig.
I love it.
This is going to take a while.
We're just coming up a little bit closer
because we're nowhere near it.
It did go on, but then it broke, Craig.
Are you going to give that to me?
Yeah.
The worst part about that is
I can't even attempt it now
because you've broken it.
I mean, there was no rules to say
if it breaks, you're disqualified
or anything like that, Craig.
So, what does that mean then?
Does that mean you've got to
wear whatever I choose for you?
Something like that, yeah.
Oh, thank goodness.
Come on.
Don't be shy.
Where are you?
I can't wait.
Oh, you look glorious.
Goofy tag, lads.
Those socks.
Oh, Vans.
Very culturally appropriate.
Yeah, I couldn't afford the clogs.
I love it.
Come on, there'll be a glass ready to go, mate.
You look great, Craig.
You know what I've decided as well?
What's that?
I see you now.
You look so German.
I'm actually going to call you
by a German name.
Okay.
Your new name is Walden.
Walden?
Yeah.
Where did you get that from?
Google.
So, me and my new friend Walden,
he's from outside of Germany,
outside the town here.
So, I'm just going to take him around
on the scooters,
let everybody know that he isn't from here
and that they should say hello.
I'm actually really jealous of his outfit.
Well, it's just as well I brought myself one,
then, innit?
I smell a beer festival.
Amy absolutely loves this,
but there's not a soul dressed up
in this festival.
It's just me and Amy.
She's like,
everyone's going to be dressed up,
it's going to be fine.
Don't you worry, Craig.
Sorry, Walden.
It's an early October fact
that everyone's going to be dressed up.
I don't mind.
The only people dressed up
are the ones on stage.
Oh, there is someone else.
My Amy thinks she works here.
I think she works here.
Remember that time we turned up
to Oktoberfest in September
and there was no one there?
We're just going to have a little beer,
soak in the atmosphere
and then leave.
I can't believe we've got a flat tyre.
After celebrating Oktoberfest on our own
and getting a few weird looks
in the process,
we headed for Frankfurt.
We found ourselves
a little camp spot on the river
and headed into the city
to explore in a tiny car
no bigger than a child's bathtub.
Powerful, man.
We have to love it.
We're right in the middle of the city
now on these go-karts.
What a way to get around.
How was your little hot rod tour then, babes?
It was brilliant, Craig.
Honestly, I was just like,
we've got to do this.
And it was fab.
There were so many people
just stopping what they were doing,
looking at this majorly old medieval cathedral
to just have a look at the cars
and then us in them
and they're taking photos of us
and I'm like, hi.
Really, really cool.
They were beastly, weren't they?
Yeah, they were rapids.
They were like, when you put your foot down,
it was like, wham!
It was so powerful.
It went really fast.
It was supposed to be an hour.
It was really quick.
I don't know if it was like
time flies when you're having fun,
but it did seem really quick.
Yeah, but it was classic.
They're so amazing.
You literally turn it slightly
and the whole car moves.
Yeah, good fun.
So now we're at a place called,
a vegan restaurant called Vive.
They don't do tap water here,
which is definitely illegal.
What's that about?
Like, if you ask for tap water
and they say, no, we don't offer that,
is that against your human rights?
I'm pretty sure that's a human right.
Leave a comment below
to let us know the logistics.
So I got a little quinoa spaghetti bolognese.
Food looks banging.
Like, I found it on Instagram
and I was like,
oh, the colour's crazy.
So yeah, we've got a few stops to do
in this city.
And the weather is,
oh, mate, we've been so jammy.
I'm loving it, man.
It's good vibes.
Nice river.
There's lush bridges and that.
Yeah, lovely.
Shut up, then I'm trying to eat.
Craig, I found the T-shirt I want.
Next stop in Frankfurt is a belter.
What's the name of it?
I can't remember.
Romenburg.
Like Camembert, but Romenburg.
That is not what it's called.
It's the old part.
Are you ready for this?
Would you look at that?
So here we are in Romenburg,
a.k.a. Camembert,
a.k.a. the oldest part of Germany.
You're mad for the facts, bro.
But I'm really pleased, though,
because here in Frankfurt,
everything's quite close,
so you don't have to travel too far
to get around.
You could literally just walk
to all the hot spots.
But this is beautiful, isn't it?
What's the actual name?
Romenburg.
I don't know.
Let me ask a local shop assistant
and see what she says.
Or none.
If my facts are correct,
which they're probably not,
don't quote me,
but a lot of Frankfurt was destroyed
in World War II.
There were a lot of bombings
that happened here,
and it got rebuilt.
I'm pretty sure this beautiful spot
is what they rebuilt.
How do you say this area?
Romenburg?
How do you say it?
Now, I don't know if you know about this
if you didn't know.
But if you do know,
obviously you know that it's here.
But it's not signposted or anything.
But in Frankfurt,
you've actually got the best of both worlds,
because you've got the city life
and the beach life.
I'm just out to the beach, man.
Don't worry about me.
Won't be late home.
Welcome to the beach, fella.
Seems it's only a lift away from Frankfurt.
So bizarre.
It's like going on top of a shopping centre,
and then all of a sudden,
you're on a beach,
on a rooftop.
It's mad.
It's really cool, though,
because it's on the rooftop.
You've got the skyline in the back.
There's sand,
and then there's two pools,
there's a bar.
Everyone's chilling.
It's really nice.
So far removed from a city.
I mean, most people in the city
are, like, frantic and busy,
but everyone's just kicked back in their lounges,
having a good time.
Craig, we've probably done
more things in Frankfurt
than most Frankfurtians
have done in their lifetime.
I've really enjoyed this city.
It's actually really surprised me
with all the different...
Like, it's so eclectic, innit?
One last traditional
Franksquirtian thing
that we have to do
while we're here.
Proper German.
So this is totally
German-chic right now,
where we are.
What's the place called?
Apfelwein Dachs.
It's like a...
It must be a traditional pub
in the heart of...
Sch...
Schanschen...
Schwein.
How is your Apfelwein?
They say it's an acquired taste,
so tell me what you think.
Like, really.
Truly.
It kind of tastes like
sweet apple juice,
but not as powerful.
Goes down really smooth, though.
It's definitely a nice drink.
It's like ice cold.
But apparently in this area,
the bartender just said that
in Hessen,
more people drink Apfelwein
than they do beer.
So, cheers to that.
Because there's a lot of
extra fruit being produced
around here or something.
That's what I heard, innit?
That's to the brim, that is.
I'm going to wet the bed tonight, Craig.
So, it's not actually that sweet.
I think they don't...
They take the sweet out of it.
And it's traditionally made with,
like,
most part Apfelwein.
A little top up with sparkling water.
It's OK.
But first, I love you.
Work it, girl!
Pop that shoulder!
Pop it, Craig, pop it!
Pop it like a traffic!
Making our way through the German lands,
we entered the Dutch lands.
On the way, we saw Dutch cows
and Dutch bridges
and Dutch radio masts.
The clouds were looming,
the inevitable happened,
and we started to wonder,
where has our summer gone?
Next time on Kingin' It,
Amy gets so excited,
she forgets how to speak.
We drive every vehicle known to man.
Watch where you're going, Amy.
Literally takes over for two seconds.
We bump into Michael Jackson.
And we eat so much food
that Amy resembles a large jacket potato.
