“Beauty and Beast” is a traditional fairytale with different versions. But the most symbolic and famous was written by Marie Leprince de Beaumont, and published in 1756.

“Beauty and the Beast” tells us of a wealthy but widowed merchant who lives in a mansion with his six children and half were daughters. His three daughters are beautiful but the youngest is the most lovely, kindest and pure of heart. That’s why she is named “Beauty”.

One day, their family encountered an unfortunate incident and their father lost all of his wealth in a tempest at sea. They are forced to move to live in a smaller house and work hard for their living.

A few years later, the father hears that one ship that is thought lost in the sea, has returned to the port. So he decides to go to the city to see if it contains anything valuable. This will help the whole family get out of the present difficulties. He asks his children if they wish him to bring any gifts back for them. While others ask for expensive things, Beauty only asks her dad to bring her a rose as none grows in their part of the country.

On the way home from the city to find the rose for Beauty, the father gets lost in a castle, where he sees a beautiful rose and picks it. At that moment, the Beast appears and catches him. The father is scared, begging for his life, and saying the rose is for his daughter. The Beast lets him go under the condition of sending one of his daughters to the castle, but the daughter must be willing to come.

To save their father, Beauty willingly and immediately agrees to come to the castle. The Beast treats her well, and they fall for each other after a long period of time despite the ugly appearance of the Beast. When Beauty says she will marry him no matter how he looks, the Beast suddenly disappears, and a handsome prince comes up. It turns out the prince is spelled by a fairy. The spell is only broken if there is a girl who loves him truly and agrees to marry him even if he looks like Beast. To end the story, they all live happily ever after.

“Beauty and the Beast” is a heartfelt story about the birth of love and the capability of love to transform the way you look at the people you love. The moral of this fairytale is that the true beauty of a person comes from the inside.
