What Discourage You from Engineering? | Tips for Engineering Students
At some point, you will feel discouraged to pursuit engineering career.
In this video we discuss 3 reasons factors that discourage you from engineering:
1/ Because you're not good at math (0:30)
You put a lot of effort into learning arithmetic ideas, and as a result, you earned engineering degrees.
Barbara Oakley used to be awful at math and was also terrified of it, but she now holds bachelor's and doctoral degrees in a variety of engineering fields.
Although there is no right answer and many people leave engineering because they struggle with arithmetic, this is not the only reason.
2/ Because you have no experience (3:30)
“I've never created an electric current, built a circuit, written a line of code, or worked on engineering projects, but I don't care since I'm interested in electrical engineering.”
This example proves the point that you don't actually need to have any prior engineering expertise in order to enroll in college and pursue your chosen course of study.
Do not overburden yourself with pressure. You can still successfully complete your goal.
3/ Because your parents used to be engineers or because you don't have any other majors to choose from (06:00)
You have a wide range of careers and employment to pick from. You choose engineering because you believe you lack manual dexterity?
Numerous factors might have impacts on your life. Even though your parents are engineers and want you to follow in their footsteps, if you're really on the fence about it, don't go for it. Because a lot of people came to regret it. So pick something else that interests you.
Additionally, avoid studying engineering if you it is your last option or if you only have a vague understanding of it. Think broadly and be ready for what you are entering into and where it could take you.
