Hello friends, it is craft time again.
In this video, I'm going to show you three different ways to make your own DIY ornaments
that are absolutely stunning, so stay tuned.
So for the first DIY ornament, you're going to start with a plastic ornament, which works
for me because so far this year in the store, I've broken six glass ornaments.
Plastic's the way to go.
Pop a little top off.
It's silver.
And what I did is I spray painted it with a Rust-Oleum spray paint and it made it look
more like a heavy, more expensive metal.
Now what you want to do is you spray paint your plastic ornament.
You can do any color you want.
I actually did black on this just so you could see how this looked on it.
And then you're going to take, this is Krylon stone texture, it is actually super fun to
do.
After your ornament is dry, then you spray this texture on and let it dry and that it's
it.
But it makes a really unique looking ornament and a very expensive looking ornament that
won't break.
For the second ornament, we are going to make these beautiful marble looking ornaments.
Again, I did plastic and I popped the tops off and I spray painted them with a gold paint.
It makes it look more expensive.
When I first tried to do this, it was a little bit difficult.
So let me tell you a few tips.
First of all, you're going to put the paint inside of the ball and then you're going to
swish it around.
The trick that helps make this more even around the ornament is don't hold it straight up
and pour your paint straight down in the bottom because by the time you get ready to swish
it, it makes a plain solid color under it.
So what you want to do is you want to tilt your ornament and then start adding your paint.
Tilt, add your paint and tilt, add your paint.
Let me show you how I did that.
So the first color I did was just a pure gold.
Second one is called titanium gold, a little bit more of a gray gold.
And then third, just a basic white.
Alright, first thing, shake them all up really well and then go ahead and pop the lids so
that you're ready to go.
Acrylic paint dries pretty fast, so you kind of want to be Johnny on the spot.
Alright, we're going to start with the gold and again I'm tilting my ornament, dropping
it in there.
I'm going to go with my next color and I'm going to, oh that little white doesn't want
to come out.
Alright, next color, turn the ornament and tilt.
Alright, put your finger over and shake it around and that's it.
I will tell you this though, I took a couple of them and to make them a little bit more
faded, I dropped just a little bit of water in there and then shook it around and it blended
it just a little bit.
But if you do that, only add a little bit of water.
But I really like the way this one turned out, so I'm going to leave well enough alone.
So ornament number three, this one takes a little bit longer.
It's not hard, but I really liked it.
I saw some, I think it was on TikTok, and they were showing these crate and barrel ornaments
which were super expensive.
So we're going to start out again with a larger plastic ornament and you're going to paint
them with acrylic paint.
Now one thing I realized was acrylic paint dries really, really fast, but there's something
about putting it on this plastic ornament that it takes a while to dry and you will
need to do two coats.
So you might want to use a skewer.
This is what I did after I painted it, still got paint all over my hands, but I was able
to stick it into a basket and that way it was able to dry.
Okay, so choose whatever colors you want to choose.
Let me show you the colors I choose for these.
Here's the colors I chose, light cinnamon, evergreens, I mean perfect names for Christmas.
I did not have a light beige, so I mixed a little bit of white with a little bit of brown.
This color is called raw umber and that's where I created the very light tan look.
Now for the fun part, I am going to give these ornaments an antique look and then I'm going
to shine them up with a little bit of, this is called antique brass color.
This color is raw umber, so put a little bit on a plate and let me show you how I added
it.
Then put just a little bit of water on your plate, like that.
So I'm going to give this ornament a whole new look by kind of giving it an antique look,
highlighting it with the gold, but the trick is when you're adding it to the ornament is
to keep going in the same direction.
You want to orbit around your ornament.
If you get too much on, dip that brush back in the water and you can kind of wipe it back
off, so don't panic if it gets too much.
So start by dipping in the raw umber, half of your brush in the raw umber, the other
half in your gold and start adding it to your ornament.
I'm going to dip my brush in a little bit of water and dry it off and now half of it's
going to get in the raw umber, flip the other side and put it in the gold and brush it off
a little bit and that helps it blend, that water helps it blend.
Now you're ready to start adding it to your ornament.
Now add a little bit more gold.
If there's too much brown, throw the gold in there and keep working around your ornament.
So if you feel like it's looking a little too brown, get that dry paper towel and gently
rub on your ornament and it kind of rubs off, leaving just a lighter patina of that raw
umber.
So my three colors, the green and the cinnamon, and this is a soft beige.
For this one, once I was done adding a little bit of gold, a little bit of raw umber, I
went back over and added a little bit more gold all the way around, where on these ornaments,
I didn't add quite as much gold.
So these would be really fun projects that you could do with your kids, with your friends,
or just by yourself while you're having fun, but doing a little bit of homemade ornaments
for the holidays or any kind of Christmas craft is a way to bring happiness into your
home.
