BAREFOOT BRITAIN_ Episode 5
Made it to the ferry on time. They're just loading it up now.
All going to be all right. I'm going to get onto the mainland even though I was an idiot and left my purse.
I'm in the waiting room at Gills Bay. I've just got off the ferry,
but I need to take off my blister because I burst it last night.
I'm just going to stop and have a little proud, proud moment
because this sign has Wick and John O'Groats on it.
And it's just made me go, oh, I'm on the mainland.
Good morning.
Today is a momentous day because the soreness in my muscles
has overtaken the soreness in my feet.
I'm definitely going to need to take it easier today, whatever I do.
I'm going onto the coast, though, which I'm quite excited about.
It's nice to know that I don't have to run on roads.
Oh, I've just rolled my ankle.
I think that's going to be a bit sore, but I'll try and hobble it off and hope it gets better.
I've just done some calculations.
And although this trail today is awesome, I keep hitting really slow patches like this.
And I've just worked out that if I carry on at this rate that I'm going at,
I am not going to make my rendezvous
this evening with the person who's picking me up to take me to give a talk.
My knees and everything are just so much more sore when I get back on the road.
And that is the end of today's run in Leipzig.
Oh, man, life.
That was a rollercoaster.
Oh, this is not only overgrown, it's overgrown with stingy nettles.
I'm getting stung to pieces.
This bit's tough.
I'm not sure whether I've lost the trail, but that is the trail.
Maybe it's up here.
But that was a big run down and a big climb up.
Oh, pants.
There are two cows in my path, and one of them is a bull.
And I'm not really sure what to do.
They're both looking at me.
I wonder if I can get around them.
Oh, Jesus. We have a problem.
Cows everywhere.
How am I going to get around?
I'm just going to creep along up here.
Try and drop back down to the road.
That was such an unnecessary waste of time.
Oh, I've had so many cuts on my feet today,
but this one is now bleeding quite a lot.
This is so steep and so slippery.
I was peeing it down the rain.
I was screaming, I'm like,
I'm strong.
I'm telling myself, I'm so strong.
That is what I'm telling myself.
That was like a test.
Oh, my days.
I thought that was never going to end.
I'm getting pretty close to thinking,
I think I need to have a day off, but on the schedule,
I'm still about another 70 odd miles from taking a day off.
But I just am starting to feel like my body's trying to tell me something.
Oh, I'm on a farmer's track.
There's no verge either side.
Just got to keep on it until I get back on the main road.
I'm just thinking, what if I hit bits like this through the rest of the run?
I know this bit's all right,
because I've only got half a mile until the road up there.
But what happens if I keep hitting this through the run?
I'm so tired.
I just wanted a nice bit of pavement to run in on.
And this is so spiky and gravelly.
