Was He Louis XVII ? - Karl Wilhelm Naundorff, date of birth unknown, date of death on August 10, 1845 in Delft, The Netherlands, was a Prussian Clockmaker who became famous for pretending to be the former Dauphin Louis Charles, also known as Louis XVII.

From 1810 to 1845, Naundorff tried in vain to be recognized by the French royals as the son of Louis XVI and Marie-Antoinette. He formed a court, appointed aides-de-camp, orderly officers, a ministry, etc.

Banished from France by Louis-Philippe I, Naundorff first found refuge in England, then in Holland, where he developed the “Bourbon bomb” and became director of the pyrotechnics workshops in Delft.

DNA Evidence in recent years has conclusively shown that Naundorff was not related to either Louis XVI or Marie Antoinette.
