Welcome to Real Magic Review, my name is Steve Faulkner and today I shall be reviewing,
for your pleasure, Paddle King, nearly forgot at the end, by TCC Magic. That was a bit early
wasn't it? I'm recalling this as live so I'm learning to press the buttons better,
that's what I'm doing to do better. So before we do this can you please like and subscribe if you
like it and you want to subscribe to it and check out onlinemagic.co that's my online magic resource
program, over 800 videos now, over 100 something, 20 I can't remember now, 115 or something live
sessions uploaded already, we do them every single week, well except the odd one when I'm
somewhere else, and we have live guest entertainers, blimey I'm all over the place,
I'm going to realise my face is not in the right place there as well. So have a look at that
anyway, it's brilliant, loads of people love it, have a look at Trust Pilot Reviews and don't take
my word for it, onlinemagic.co. Okay, this is a classic of magic, I'm, well I'm a sucker for a
lot of things, but one of them are classic magic tricks, is classic magic tricks, and
paddle move stuff, I think the paddle move is, paddle tricks are brilliant and people think
everybody knows about it. I'll tell you what, I did a workshop a few years ago with the little
paddle tricks you get with jumping dots, and it looks so good, it just really does look good,
and I taught an impromptu version, the impromptu version really, knife and paper,
straight from Tarbell on the course the other day, and it's just, it's beautiful, there's so
much you can do with it, Richard Sanders of course, doing turbo stick, goes on forever,
so this is nothing new, and that's the point of it really, this is a classic of magic, and this
is going back to, you know, I remember seeing the note and the paper and the, with the big
wooden paddles, and thinking that looks a bit odd, and what I like about TCC is that they embrace the
kind of classic design of this, and it is, you know, this is something that is clearly a magic trick,
it doesn't look like anything else, but I don't think that matters, I've really changed my tune on this,
I think these kind of things, if you really just go for it and embrace the fact that you're doing
a magic trick with an odd kind of prop, and rely on the strength of the magic, then for me that's
good enough, and you know, I'm, you know, I love all the kind of ball and cone and all that kind of stuff,
so you know, not for everybody, but, so we'll, well I'll tell you what I'll do, I'll stick the trailer on,
and then we'll talk about it, I'll talk over the trailer, but I won't talk loads, because it
says quite a lot, and if you want to see it without me talking, just watch it separately, so
this is the trailer for Paddle King. How to combine industrial design and magic products.
I'm going to skip that bit, because it talks about how to combine design and all that, yeah it's good,
I mean basically it's been designed really nicely, get a little thing of it, that's good, isn't it?
Lovely little carry case, which I do like actually for this sort of thing, because it's a classy
looking thing, you know, if you get that out, it just, I'm not saying you should get the case out,
but I think it's nice. Right, let's have a look at the trick. Right, here we go. Magic and products.
This is made from black walnut wood, so it's not looking like wood, it is actually wood,
but when we, before we, I just want you to look at, forget about the fact that it's a weird prop,
and it's all that stuff, just look at how magical this looks, you know, I think, you know, pretend
you're a leader, anything about magic, nothing at all, and you're just seeing this for the first
time. Yeah, and this is the classic, you know, mark a dot on one side and a dot appears on the other
side, you know, but you're doing a physical object, sticking a coin on there, the coin appears
on the other side, and there's something nice about that physicality of that, isn't there,
that you're making an appearance of another, I think it's great, you know, I think that's,
so this is the main routine, it's not the routine I put on, I put a thing on social media last night,
which I'll talk to you about in a minute, but I think that's, I think that's a lovely routine,
you do have to provide your own coins, you do have to provide your own banknotes, you need
two duplicate banknotes, duplicate set of coins, and you can do the same with a duplicate ring as
well. So that routine you get with it, you can do all of that, the other you've got, you know,
provide your banknotes and stuff, you can do this straight away, I think that kick is lovely,
by the way, people, you can really take people down a path that know the trick, and then in the
end you just, you've got that, and you can hand that out for examination, if you want, I probably
as they are there, and then this is the classic, you know, the same trick that, which is a bit
similar that Richard Saunders taught on turbo stick, which is just great, look at how good it
looks, and you pop it back in your little case and everything's all good. So I think that looks
brilliant, now that is done very, very well, I put, did a little experiment, what I do,
when I post these things, I try not to, I say I try not to make them perfect, I have a choice,
I can post something and see a little flaw in it, and think right, if people are going to pick up
on that, they're going to pick up on it online, so if I post this, and I'm not happy with that,
I'm not happy with that, if nobody mentions it, a non-magician, because when you put stuff online
and non-magicians see it, they want to catch you out, I'm not saying they're going to watch it
again and again and again, but if they see something obvious, they see something that
gives it away, they usually will say, oh, I saw the thing. So I did this quite badly,
I recorded it last night, I went home and I thought, no, I'm going to do it again tomorrow,
I said no, stick it out and just get the feel of it, and see if it gets any negative comments.
So this is my version, it's nothing like what they're doing, this is after me playing it,
playing with it for like 20 minutes really. I hope you see the irony in the music.
Right, so that, you know, I was just playing around with the idea of kind of justifying
showing it back and front by cleaning it and all that, and you know, that wasn't sitting there
spending hours on it, there's a little silent script there, I'm trying to clean the thing
and then that's fallen off, where's the other one, all that. So the point was that you don't
have to just go look, that you can find meaning within this, even though it seems like an unusual
object. I also thought as well that, you know, this paddle with a mirror on it,
you know, if you really want, I mean, I think you could just do it, say this is a great magic
tree, we use the mirror, you know, but you can, all the lines, you can do them done with mirrors
and all that kind of stuff, which is great, but I quite like the idea of this, I came up with this
idea, I'm not saying it's a great idea by the way, just totally not, but I say this is one of those
vanity mirrors, what do you mean, for people who don't want to be as vain, right, so you know,
if you want to look at it, you can only look at the, you can only look at little bits of your face,
the bits you need to sort of do, rather than, you know, getting caught up in how you look and all
that and I just thought, you know, it only shows you a tiny bit of your face, for people like me
that have real problems with vanity, I don't know, nonsense, but, you know, it gives you something
and I think that's, you know, with no thought at all, so for those people who say, look,
you can find meaning, you get an object like that, you can pretend it's a certain thing from the past
and, you know, I talked about Derren Brown doing a piece in his show, where he had this board with holes
in it and, you know, everybody bought it, nobody questioned it, so I really like it, obviously, it's a
beautifully made product, I think it looks great, I think it's a very strong magic trick, am I going
to go and do it at every corporate gig? No, because the style of it doesn't suit me when I'm performing
that kind of thing, but it is something I'll have on me and it was something I would arguably do
if it fitted into a certain show and I had a story around it, not a show on stage, but a
little parlour show, I think it's really strong and I think that the appearance of the bells and
the coin, I think that's strong magic, I really, really do and the idea that you can sort of hand
it out afterwards, I think, is also a very strong thing. I'm really glad they're making this stuff,
I'm really glad that they're bringing our attention to it, which is why I really wanted
to review it. Now I'm doing that, you know, doing that quite badly, there are moments in it where
you can see that I'm kind of getting ready for something and actually the only person that
commented on it, I'm not saying there won't be more, that oh, you know, you're kind of re-gripping
it there or something like that and you're giving it all away, was a magician and it highlights that
as magicians we see someone re-gripping something as getting ready for a move, which isn't ideal,
you don't really want to do that, but actually you might re-grip it anyway to show it, so the fact
that no lay people and a lot saw it and actually gave it to about two or three and said can you
watch this like five times and see if you can really, you know, a couple of people that knew
the move said I think you're doing that thing, but what was the ending, so you've got that kicker
ending, so I think the fact that I did it quite badly and still got away with it, I think shows
that it's strong magic and the comments, you know, of people that went oh that's great, you know,
not saying that likes mean anything, but you know, I mean I wasn't pulled up and if people
are going to pull you up on something they are going to, you know, I don't get loads of views,
but even with a thousand plus views there's going to be someone if they see something obvious that's
going to say oh, and nobody did and I think that for me confirms that this, you haven't got to get
this perfect for it to be quite strong, but of course you want to. I think Paddle King's great,
I'm going to do a few more of the classics from TCC, it's not going to suit everybody,
it's an honest trick, if you like the look of that trick and you think it suits you and you
want to play with it, you want a really nice presented bit of kit, then you're going to love
it, you're not going to be disappointed when you get it. Now there are a couple of sales on at the
moment at time of, depending when you watch this, but they have a Black Friday sale on for ages
and I have a, if you look below, there will be a code where you can get 20% off. Okay,
so it's something like Steve20, but I'm going to make sure you look at it, so use all the links
below and the code and you'll get 20% off. That isn't an affiliate link, I'm not affiliated,
I don't get anything for this, they just kindly said look, you know, here's a code for you and
that's I think valid for something like four months from the time of recording or maybe
five months or maybe even six. But that's that, thank you very much, any questions,
I'm going to miss loads out, so I record these as live now, so that's why they're a bit more
wobbly, but if you've got any questions put them below, I will answer them on the Thursday live
sessions, comments on comments, that's when I look through everything and answer all the questions I
can that I miss out in the reviews and anything else you want to come and ask live. So that's
Thursdays at 5 UK time, comments on comment shows and sometimes I do other random lives as well,
so make sure if you like and subscribe, you hit the little bell icon below and you'll get notified
when I go live and have a look at onlinemagic.co straight after this please, if you like this you're
going to love that and without that there is no this, so do support the channel, I do have a
