Wow, what an amazing trip to Berlin. That train's about to take off, so I'll get back with you in
just a second. Where do we go from? Where do we go from here? All right, there we go. Berlin has been
surprising to me. The people, the food, the Christmas markets. I say we have to come back
here in the spring and explore some more. It's an amazing city. They have metro passes for 24 hours,
so we got, for our four days, we managed to just use two passes because we got one when we got
here and used that until midnight to go out, and then we used it until 7 p.m. the next day,
and then we just rested until 11 a.m. the next day. We got one at 11, and we used one all that day and
that night, and then we're using that this morning to go catch our main train that leaves at 11 a.m.
That was a lot. Maybe I'll do something down below, but anyways, they have the BVG app. That
great little app right there is amazing to get around. Makes it super affordable and easy.
Now we're off to Heidelberg. Find a market for some five-hour trips.
Thankfully, the main train station, the Hauptbahnhof, is also a giant
shopping mall with everything you could need. Wow, memories.
Always travel with a shopping bag. Now let's find our train. All the way at the end.
Okay, so the next stop wasn't Heidelberg. It was the store, then the train to Frankfurt,
then Heidelberg. This time we're even facing forward.
We made it to Heidelberg. Our room in our hotel is just a 10-minute walk from the station. We're
going to be at State City Apartheid for the next four nights, so now it's time for a room tour.
Separate toilet and shower. And something I really like about Germany is the water is instant.
Hot water, I should say, is instant. Oh, that's hot. Closet, spare blanket, fridge, and a huge bed.
Oh yeah, that's nice. Come on, I can't leave you out there.
It'll be tomorrow before I see you. But on the side note, they have a coffee maker.
Snazzy. Oh, what am I kidding? I've been sitting on a train all day long. I'm ready to go eat.
Last night we just went to a nearby grocery store and grabbed some snacks and called it a night.
It's good weather today, and in Germany you never waste a good weather day. That is very true. So
we're going to take the opportunity to wander around the Altstadt, the old town, and the center
of Heidelberg and see what we find. If you're a woman and you're wondering why I'm walking around
without a coat on, one day you will understand. Hot flashes, food swings, frequent urination.
When we were in Japan we had sushi squares and we absolutely loved them. Even though they're
triangles, don't ask. I know. But here we found some at Renwe, but they're $2.49. A little expensive.
These little rolls are like a piece. The fun part is,
you know, we had to eat them to bring back memories.
Oh, sun. So I didn't explain it really.
You pull off the edges of all the plastic, which keeps the nori dry,
then you wrap it up and it's ready to eat. That one's really good. It's a teriyaki chicken.
This should tide us over until we find something for lunch.
Now this is why I love Germany. Well, this is going to happen. It's a spot. That's more like it.
Cheers. That is Santa made out of Legos. My goodness. You're probably talented enough.
Yeah, but I can't afford that many Legos. Touche, my friend. Now this is what I saw in pictures.
It's amazing here. Come over here.
I think, no, we've gotten enough Birkenstocks this month and you've even suckered me into
getting a pair. That is true. For winter. And he loves them. She's not lying. They're really
comfortable. Oh God, that was amazing. They were so soft. He offered to let us walk him,
I thought we were going to get drug into doing the jobs. We're like, Oh no. Okay. Thank you.
What a sweet guy. I'm glad we got to see the Christmas markets in Berlin
because they're taking them all down here. They're all closed for COVID. I feel bad because
they built them, they stocked them. And then at the last minute they said, sorry.
So they're out all that money and all that work. And some people that's their main source of
income for an entire year. Chris, you've got some competition. That beats me in spades.
All the Christmas trees taken down. Oh, you know, just an ancient castle.
There's just cool old stuff everywhere. We're going to go on that bridge and look for a monkey.
And I'll tell you about that monkey later. This monkey was installed in 1979,
but actually since the 15th century, there has been a monkey here a whole time. The story goes
that the monkey was meant to remind those across the bridge to look over their shoulder at where
they had come from. If you touch the mirror, it's supposed to give you wealth. And if you touch the
hands or the fingers, it's supposed to say, you're going to come back to Heidelberg. What's it do if
you put your head up in there? I don't know. I've never heard that, but I'm going to do it. You know
what it does? It gives you COVID. Probably. Well, great job on your tour today, babe. The bridge,
the town. We didn't go into the castle, but we got to see it. Old town is amazing. Well,
thank you. That was fun. And it's a cutest little town. Berlin was amazing in the city feel and all
that. And this, this small town is not really super small here, but it's got a small town feel.
I'm sorry. I'm just looking at all the buildings. They're all so different. It's amazing. And as we
mentioned, the weather is set to turn pretty wet. And since we've got a couple of days here and
today was gorgeous, we got it all fit in today. So we're going to go out and look for some lunch.
And then after that, who knows, this may be all we see from Heidelberg. We will tell you later.
Weather pending. Weather pending. Keep drinking this coffee.
