2022 Nissan Altima SR Midnight Edition Review and Test Drive Can it Compete in Todays Sedan Market?

Hey YouTube, it's Christopher here from Cars Unlocked. We're back with another Nissan Midnight Edition, the 2022 Nissan Altima SR. We're going to go through the ins and outs. Let's get to it. So for 2022, Nissan has added the Midnight Edition to the Altima lineup and they got rid of just the regular SL. Now it's just an SR Midnight Edition. And what the Midnight Edition gets you is all the black cosmetic accents that we're going to go through on the outside of the vehicle. This one has an MSRP of $32,698. So for 2019, Nissan redesigned the Nissan Altima. They added the all-wheel drive, the Nissan Intelligent All-Wheel Drive. And for 2022, it is similar, but let's take a look at the front end here. It's going to come with your full Nissan LED signature daytime running lights. And then you have your fog lights down below. With this Midnight Edition, you get this black painted V-Motion grille here. Normally, this is going to be chrome. Very deep V-Motion grille. You have our flattened out Nissan emblem. That's for our forward sensors because this one comes with the full Nissan Safety Suite. So we have the sensor at the top of the windshield here for things like our Intelligent Cruise Control and our forward emergency braking. Let's look at the side profile here, guys. And you can see a few features of this Midnight Edition. For example, you're going to get the blacked out mirror caps right on the mirrors. And then you have your LED turning signals as well. 19-inch all-black aluminum alloy rims. So this contrasts great with the black and the white exterior. It's going to come with front and rear disc brakes. And then as you see, we can move around to the backside here. We have this nice floating roof look. So if you like this Midnight Edition, you obviously like the black accents on the vehicles versus the chrome because it continues on the back here. You have this nice black spoiler. And then we have our black badging. You can see our Ultima and our Midnight Edition and SR badging as well, and all-wheel drive badging. You're going to get a rear backup camera and rear parking sensors, which we're going to show you when we jump inside. So with this SR package, you'll also get the remote starter. So you just need to click the lock button twice and click and hold the remote start button and it's going to automatically start up. You get the Nissan Intelligent Key, so you just need to approach the car and push the button on the door and you can jump up, open it, jump in and get inside. So the Nissan Ultima has always been known for having a pretty large trunk. There you go. I'm going to say about three dead bodies in the back of the trunk there. It's a 60-40 split for the seat. We got all our gear in here. I personally have a 2014 Ultima. Never had any trouble fitting anything into the trunk. Very large trunk and cargo area. When you jump inside, you sit down into, it's an eight-way power adjustable driver's seat, and I got to talk about the seats because the seats are incredibly comfy. Nissan has the zero gravity seats, which really help on those long drives and just target your pressure points of your body to make it extra comfortable for you. Push the button here and you can start it up. The seats are also heated and the wheel is heated as well. With this SR package, you get this nice orange stitching all throughout the interior. It's all along the wheel, the center console, the interior and all along the seats. It is like a leather seat, kind of with these cloth inserts. So you have like a leatherette style seating, but the orange and the black contrast great with the color combination. On the wheel, we have our Bluetooth controls, our radio controls. We have the seven-inch Nissan Advanced Drive Assist display as well. It's going to show some things like our digital speedometer and things like that. Jumping in the back seat, there's a ton of space back here. That's what I really like. I'm 5'9", I mentioned that before, but you can see how much legroom I have here. This seat is positioned for how I would be driving. You have a cup holder down here and you can drop the center armrest down if your passengers want a cup holder. There's one USB and a USB-C to charge your phone. Ventilation in the back. The big benefit here is just that there's a lot of space for your passengers. So this one's going to come with the 8-inch Nissan Connect infotainment system. I've done a full tutorial of this system on my channel, so if you guys need help setting up your Bluetooth, connecting to Android Auto, things like that, make sure you check that out. But here you can see this SR package is going to come with our GPS, Nissan Connect navigation. We're going to get the Apple CarPlay and the Android Auto, Bluetooth audio streaming, Sirius satellite radio. You have the Google Points of Interest as well. So lots of things you can do. The backup camera is going to come on automatically when you put it in reverse. Probably one of my few complaints with this car is the backup camera. It's not super clear. I don't know if you can see it through the camera, but the backup camera could be done a little better. So right away, this heated steering wheel heated up super quick, especially on a cold day like today. It's minus four out right now, and the wheel is just nice and hot as I got in the car. So really nice heated steering wheel. But here we go. We'll talk about the power plan of the Altima. This one's going to come with the 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine. It's going to give you about 182 horsepower and 178 pounds-feet of torque attached to that Nissan CVT transmission. So quite enough power for what you guys are using, but you'll get very positive fuel economy, which is a big factor right now with the prices going up pretty high to like into the 130s per liter. You're going to get 9.3 liters for every 100 kilometers in the or 30 miles per gallon. It's a combined of about 8.1 and has highway rating of about 6.7. So you'll get combined about 35 miles per gallon, which is pretty good. You get quite a few safety features with the Nissan Altima. You have your blind spot monitor, which it's going to indicate you on here. You'll have your lane departure warning. You'll have the automatic high beam assistant. The headlights are automatic and then you'll have the haptic feedback in the wheel if you kind of deviate from the lane. But let's take off here a little bit. Nice smooth acceleration, especially that's probably the positive thing of the CVT is it's a smooth acceleration from start to finish and you don't really feel those kind of shifts change in there. There we go. The guy in front of me just kind of slowed down quite a bit and it was just beeped at me showing me that I was approaching him a little too quickly. So that's your Ford emergency warning. Really neat feature and really helps you just stay in control. What I would like to see in the SR model is the pro pilot assist. You got to go up to the Platinum to get the pro pilot assist. This one doesn't even have the intelligent cruise control here. So I'd like to see some of those safety features that you get in, but they want you to go up to the Platinum to get those features. This one's more like the sport model. So it's going to come with these paddle shifters right on the wheel. That's exclusive to this SR package and you can cycle through your gears using the paddle shifters, almost like a manual mode with no clutch. But you can put it in sport mode and have a little fun with the paddle shifters. So tell me what you guys think of that. So that's a wrap guys. Thanks so much for watching.
