WHAT IS YOUR HOME STYLE? | HOW TO FIND IT | 2021

And in today's video, we are talking about how to figure out what the heck your home decor style is. So if this is something you're interested in watching, just keep on watching. So this video actually was a suggestion based on one of my subscribers. She asked, how do you find your home decor style? So I figured this would be great content to bring to you guys. And hopefully you get some inspiration as well as maybe hone in if you are still confused on where the heck you are with your home. style category you go into. So I'm going to go over a couple of key points with you as well as talk about how I found out what my style was. And let's get into it. Is browse different style magazine. Look at Crate and Barrel, CB2, Pottery Barn, Lulu in Georgia. Go through all of these different catalogs and see what resonates with you. Grab inspiration, take some pictures out of the magazines of rooms that you like that in the design style that you are gravitating towards, compose them into a collage. Now for me, I'm a very visual person when it comes to designing any type of room within my home. I always put together a kind of lookbook or a collage for that matter of different pieces and different items that I'm gravitating for that space. So I think by you ripping out different items or different styles, pictures of different living rooms or kitchens that you are gravitating towards will give you a visualization of what it is that you are gravitating towards in the style that you are liking the most. So that is kind of tip number one. Tip number two is taking an online quiz. Now we have all done that. I have taken an online quiz. Now to be honest, I don't think these are 100% accurate. Every single time I have taken an online quiz or figuring out what my style is, it doesn't really reflect what my current style is. It really throws me in like a completely different category, which I can't really see. So take it with a grain of salt when you take those, but it can help you get an idea of where it is that you are landing in as far as a style category. On top of it is going to give you a bunch of different styles, bunch of different things to look at and see what it is that you are leaning into for the style. So that is going to be tip number two is just taking one of those online quizzes. Tip number three, which you guys are going to think is kind of weird, but pay attention to what exterior homes you like. For example, I love the farm style. I love the white. I love the black trim of the windows. I love how sometimes they'll have like the exposed wood beams or pillars. I absolutely love that. However, I also really love the Mediterranean style when it comes to like the landscaping. You have like the Japanese boxwood plants, lavenders, iceberg roses, which is very much how I designed our landscape currently, is I love that Mediterranean kind of garden-y feel in a way. The olive trees, like I love that look. So almost meshing the two of them together, the exterior kind of the farm style look with the landscape and hardscape of a Mediterranean feel together. So pay attention to what exterior homes that you are liking. Is it a traditional home? Is it a Mediterranean home? Is it a contemporary modern home? Pay attention to what exterior you like from the outside. So that is tip number three. Tip number four is paying attention to your current home decor. What are items that you love and what are items that you can kind of get rid of or you don't care to have? I would put your decor in two different piles, keep and get rid of, and see what it is that you are keeping. What's in that keep pile and is it all the same stuff? A plethora of different items. See what decor items you are really loving currently and which ones you can kind of eliminate out of that pile. So tip number five is interior paint color. Are you one that loves a neutral white, tans, creams, maybe some light grays? Or are you someone that really loves pops of color? I know some people don't like pop of color, but I definitely think you can do pops of color in a very tasteful way. So are you one that really loves a super bright wall? Maybe you're into more of the Moroccan feel, Moroccan style. Are you someone that likes more of a neutral, light creams, light tans? Maybe you're more of the boho style. So really lean in on what paint color is gravitating towards and yeah, so that's tip number five is really paying attention to what paint colors you are liking. Tip number six, the last kind of tip for you guys, which is totally random, but look at your wardrobe. Does your wardrobe reflect who you are when it comes to how you design your space? Now for me, it's kind of a, I don't know, 50-50 because you're looking at colors, you're looking at textures, you're looking at patterns. I definitely like to be neutral for the most part when it comes to my wardrobe, but I also am very loud in a sense. I'll do lime green nail polish, hot pink nail polish. I have a hot pink Louis Vuitton bag. I like loud in a certain way, which doesn't really reflect my home decor style. However, I do know Arvin Alano. When I look at Arvin, I definitely think how he dresses reflects his home without a doubt to a tee. The color palette, the texture, everything is impeccable. It's very much hand in hand when it comes from his wardrobe to how he decorates his home. So look at your wardrobe. Does your wardrobe reflect your home decor style? So those are kind of the six main tips that I wanted to have you guys pay attention to when you're trying to figure out your home style. Now how I figured out my personal home style was really when I started working for Restoration Hardware. It was a great tool for me when it came to learning about the different styles, learning about traditional and modern and rustic. There are so many different aspects of Restoration Hardware and the lines that they carry within the company and it was a really great way for me to learn what it is that I liked. Now when I'm looking at my house and I'm looking around at the items that I've purchased, I have stuff that's rustic. My table that I'm at right now is a total rustic farmhouse vibe table, but then I have it paired with super modern white Ellison chairs. The biggest takeaway from this video and honestly from every video that I create for you guys is make sure when you buy something, you buy it because you absolutely love it and just because maybe one of the items that you purchase is from one style and another item is from a different style does not mean that you can't marry them together to create a beautiful curated space. Now I know we all love to look at inspiration. I know we love to get influenced by an influencer, a style, a brand, but make sure when you are doing that, as I've stated on my channel a thousand times, make sure that you are curating a space because of you and what you love, not because of someone else's style or someone else's influence. I think that is the biggest takeaway is just designing your space based off what you love, not based off of something or someone else. So that's how I kind of found my styles. I obviously working in furniture business, I was seeing all the different furniture and I gravitate towards what I gravitate and whatever I gravitate towards, I brought in and I curated my home based on what I really love and enjoy. You might not be in modern, you might not be in boho, you might be a mixture of three different styles and that is totally okay. There is no right or wrong way. So don't be afraid to mix and match styles, marry different styles together, step outside the box, push the boundaries and have fun. All that it should be is fun.
