What is self-actualization and what are the twelve characteristics that would
create a self-actualized person? Stick with me I am going to go into detail on
each and every single one and stay with me to the very end to understand how
this can impact your every single day life and get you on the course to your
highest and greatest purpose and most fulfilling life ever. Hey everybody it's
Jessi Q your coach, teacher, mentor and accountability partner to help you reach
your goal of living to your highest and best purpose in this life. Welcome I'm so
glad you've joined me. So I like to talk about self-actualization because
ultimately it is that end goal that has us each and every single one of us
living to our highest and best and our most personal purpose in life. So my
purpose and my God-given gifts are not the same as yours. So it is our job in
this life I believe to find that gift that we are given by God, by spirit, by
the universe, whatever. We are each given something that we are to give back to
this world and how do we find, how do we discover that ultimate life-fulfilling
purpose in our lives? How do we reach self-actualization where we are not
susceptible to the noise and the clutter from the outside world and we
can hone in on ourselves to live our best lives. I'm going to share with you
these 12 characteristics that come from Abraham Maslow. He has this hierarchy of
needs that I talked about in another video but at the peak of his hierarchy
of needs is what he says is self-actualization and I think this is
true. It is the natural hardwired state that us humans exist at that we can get
diverted from in fulfilling our greatest life purpose. So here we go.
Okay number one. Number one is an efficient perception of reality. So
self-actualized people have a very efficient perception of reality. This
means that they are particularly good at assessing a situation or assessing
people and finding if there's something false, if there's something that's off,
that something's not just quite right with that situation and they can perceive
of that and identify it and just let it be. They're not particularly concerned
with trying to change that person but they can clearly identify when something
is false or not quite right and just know that it is so. Number two is a very
comfortable acceptance of themselves, of others, and of nature. So certainly we are
not perfect as human beings. The world and nature is not a perfect place and
there is a comfortable acceptance of ourselves, of others, of nature, and all of
its perfection and all of its flaws. There's not a need to again correct or
change. It's just a comfortable acceptance of ourselves and others as
they are. Number three is independence and a sense of self and looking at our
own judgments to form our opinions as opposed to relying on the world around
us to interpret and tell us how things should be. Number four is someone who is
spontaneous and natural. This means that we are true to ourselves and we are not
molding ourselves to be someone who we are not. We are just spontaneous and
natural and true to who we are. Whether that means we're quiet and introverted,
we're extroverted, we have particular characteristics, all of that is great. As
I said earlier, we may have flaws but we are just spontaneous and natural and
comfortable with that. Number five is being task-centered. This means that we
have a purpose in life, that we know that we have a purpose and we are living to
that purpose in our life. Also with this means that it's about enjoying the
journey and not just working for the destination. So it's not the end that
we're going for. It's an enjoyment of the whole process. So the purpose in our life
is to find that purpose in our life, live to that purpose in our life and
enjoy the journey as we go along in life. Number six is being autonomous. So a
self-actualized person is free from the reliance on other people's guidance. They
tend to be an independent person who is comfortable with making their own
decisions and they don't look to and need other people to guide them on their
path in life. Again this is important because they are being true to
themselves so they are they are autonomous from needing other people's
guidance and opinion on the direction that they need to go in life. Number
seven is to have a continued freshness of appreciation about life and the world
around us. So a self-actualized person always looks at life with a fresh new
perspective. They see that there's a lot of an abundance, a lot of joy, they're
living a little bit more in the now and really understanding and appreciating
what is happening in life around us. So you look at things almost as a childhood
where the rain outside or the puddle in the road or the birds flying through the
sky or just a beautiful blue sky one day. All of that takes on a new perspective
and there's an awareness of it that sometimes if we're living otherwise we
don't even tend to see. So number seven is an appreciation of everyday life and
the abundance around us. Number eight is profound personal relationships.
Self-actualized people tend to have fewer relationships but the relationship
they have are very deep and profound. It is a really true and authentic and deep
relationship with the people around them. Number nine is self-actualized
people are comfortable with solitude. They are okay being by themselves, they
are comfortable being by themselves. Doesn't mean that they need this all the
time but when you are alone there is a comfort with that because you're
comfortable with who you are. Number ten is having a sense of humor. This is about
being able to laugh at yourself, not take things too seriously. If people are
making fun of you you're okay with it because you're okay with yourself. So
number ten is having a good sense of humor so you're not poking fun at other
people and you can laugh at yourself and just have fun in life. So number eleven
Maslow in his hierarchy of needs and the phase of self-actualization labels as
peak experiences. This is something where you feel a deep connectedness and
harmony with the way things are. It's almost a moment of just feeling
spiritually very connected to things, connected to the world, connected to
everyone else. It's a feeling of wholeness, a feeling of fulfillment, a
feeling of just great personal profound joy. So these peak experiences mark a
another characteristic of a self-actualized person. Last but not least
number twelve is being socially compassionate. This means that a
self-actualized person has a deep connection with the world and what's
going on around them. They have a spirit of wanting to help, to be of service to
others, to be aware of the humanity that's going on around them both in
their own community and around the world and there is a feeling of being
very socially compassionate to the world and what's going on in the world. So the
interesting thing is that it is the culmination of all of these
characteristics together that create a self-actualized person and a
self-actualized person is living to their individual highest and greatest
potential in giving their selves to the people around them, to their community
and to the world. So our goal in becoming self-actualized people is not a selfish
goal. It is living to our highest and best purpose. It is living most
authentically to ourselves so that we can give the best of ourselves to the
people around us, that we can live each moment of our day to our highest and
best purpose in this life, that we can contribute the best of ourselves to the
world and to the people around us and that's why having a goal of becoming
self-actualized, of living to these twelve characteristics is so important
in life and it doesn't need to be overwhelming, all-encompassing. It just
means understanding what these twelve characteristics are and starting to think
about incorporating these and living to these awarenesses in our life every
single day. Thank you so much for watching this video. I hope you found it
