Do you have a situation in your life
that keeps happening to you over and over and over again?
Something that in different forms,
but similar sort of style,
just keeps bumping into your life
and you keep saying, why does this keep happening to me?
Hey everybody, this is Jessie Q,
your everyday coach for intentional living.
So I think this is a common thing for a lot of people.
It's certainly happened in my life.
Over and over and over again,
I keep running into a certain situation
in my work life, in a personal life,
that just keeps happening.
And I've had it in companies that I've worked with
where I kind of run into the same environment,
work environment all the time,
and I'm like, why is this happening again?
In relationships, maybe it's the same sort of
relationship dynamic that keeps happening
over and over and over again.
Does this sound like something that you're familiar with
that happens in your life?
So why is that happening?
I truly believe that these things happen in our life
because we have a need to step back
and learn something from it.
So we grow up in our life and we are conditioned
and patterned into certain ways of thinking
through our family environment,
through society and things like that as we're growing up.
And then we get out there into the wide world
and we're living our own life.
And honestly, there's a lot of things
that I think we have to retrain ourselves
and grow through and beyond
based on what we've learned as a child
and what society tells us.
And those things that keep recurring in our life,
I really believe are there for us as a red flag,
something that's taking us by the shoulders
and saying, pay attention to this.
You need to change your behavior
on how you're reacting to this
so that you can grow and overcome
and not experience it again.
So how do you do that?
I mean, first off, if you keep running into things
over and over and over again in your life,
are you recognizing that it's something
that you need to pay attention to and overcome yourself?
Or do you look at it as a victim
where you're going, oh my gosh, it's happening again.
I can't believe it.
And you get yourself all wrapped up again
in the emotions of, oh, it's happening again.
I can't believe this.
I'm so sick of this.
I don't want this happening again.
But then when you approach it that way,
you are opening up a huge realm of negative emotion
that in essence is keeping that activity,
that recurring pattern happening in your life.
So there's two ways to look at it.
You can either be the victim and blow up the emotions,
the negative emotions, and live and thrive
in the energy of, woe is me, it's happening one more time.
I can't believe this.
I am so sick and tired of this, on and on and on.
You're not gonna get rid of that recurring pattern
in your life if that's the way you look at it.
You're gonna keep bringing it into your life
because you're putting your energy into it that way.
You're putting your energy in the negative pattern
happening over and over and over again.
If you step back and you recognize that it's happening
and you start to look at it a little bit different,
like you remove yourself from the situation.
You say, okay, I can see that this is happening
over and over and over again.
It's time for me to do something about it.
The old saying, if you keep doing the same thing,
you're gonna keep getting the same results.
Well, so this is time for you to make a break from that
and have different results
because you're gonna take a different pattern
to be dealing with it.
So step back, don't be the victim.
Step back and say, okay, I'm seeing that this pattern
is happening over and over and over again.
What is it that I need to learn from this situation?
What is it that I've not been seeing in the past
that I need to just take a deep breath,
reassess and deal with it differently this time?
It starts to break the pattern
of that happening again and again.
So for me, I kept finding myself in a job situation
where I felt like I didn't fit with the company.
Our view of business practices
were at odds with one another.
Maybe ethically, I looked at the business life
a little differently than the people that I worked for.
And I kept finding myself in this pattern
over and over again.
And then I changed jobs and I found myself back there again.
And so, you have to step back.
And for me, the way I dealt with it in the past
was to just say, I can't work for this place anymore.
I can't do this anymore.
And I would leave and go to another company
and find myself in the same place again,
find myself in the same environment again.
So I had to step back and look at myself
and think about what I was doing.
Did I like my job?
Was I serving people well
for the people that I was helping in my job?
Was I doing a good job of helping them?
Was I bringing them value and benefits?
So the fact that other people in my company
looked at and handled the job differently than I did
was separate from the fact
that when I was doing what I was doing,
I was doing it well and benefiting the people
that I was serving.
So rather than just a reaction to say, I'm done,
I'm out of here,
and finding myself in the same role all over again,
I stepped back and I said,
I am doing a great job of helping these people.
I am giving them positive benefits.
I'm gonna do my best to maybe take my values
and shine those to other people in the company.
They can choose or not choose to do what I'm doing.
But I stayed within my job
because what I was doing was helping a broader band
of people out there in the world with my efforts.
And so slowly over time,
I'm finding that it helped me break the pattern
of wanting to leave a company
and recognizing the fact that I was still out there
benefiting the greater whole with what I was doing
by staying and working in that role,
even though I was a little out of odds
with people who dealt with my role very, very differently.
I don't know if that makes sense,
but I think if you stop and step back,
again, maybe you just wanna take a little bit of quiet time.
I'm always an advocate for taking a little quiet time
and looking at why you,
first off, what is it that's recurring in your life?
What is it that's recurring in your life?
Again, is it in a relationship?
Does it have something to do with health patterns,
maybe eating patterns?
Is it a work situation that keeps recurring,
a typical sort of person that keeps recurring
in your work life over and over again
or in your personal life over and over again?
What is it, the pattern, that is recurring in your life,
number one, and then number two,
why do you think it's recurring?
For me, I think typically it had to do
with looking back into my past,
how I was taught growing up to deal with things,
and it was something within that that I needed to shift.
I needed to really reevaluate
my patterns that I was taught as a child
on how to deal with things
and apply a different set of standards
to my current situation.
I had to break how I'd been taught to deal with it as a kid
and apply different patterns to it as an adult
in that situation to stop the pattern from recurring.
I hope this is making some sense.
Again, step back, reevaluate, change patterns,
because if you keep doing the same thing
over and over again,
and if you keep staying in the victim mode
of I can't believe it,
this is a really easy place to go to, too, by the way,
but if you go to the victim mode
and you say I can't believe it,
you're not taking responsibility for what's going on,
you're not looking within yourself
to try and change the pattern,
and to be honest with you,
you're just growing the situation
and encouraging it to happen again and again and again
because you're focusing your energy
on the negative emotions,
and you bring into your life what you put your energy on,
and if you put your energy on negative emotions,
those negative emotions are gonna come into your life,
so you're gonna manifest the wrong thing,
and that's not what you want.
Anyway, I hope this makes some sense.
I hope you've enjoyed it.
I hope you find it's given you a little bit of a snippet
of something to focus on today
to help you change the direction of your life just slightly.
Even just a little bit of a change
can make a huge difference over time.
Have a great day.
