I have been here in the Baie de Marigaux for about a
week and a half now I have managed to get some things going
I had the railing repaired once
before That was done by a Reger here
Then I naturally sent out an enormous number of quotation requests
I received the first offer here from FKG on Sint
Maarten But still very unclear
The work is still ongoing
I was also on a meeting to discuss this
I asked about sails
I got an offer from Tropical Sail
That was very quick and very straightforward
And then I naturally inquired again about Grenada
Also asked again in Germany if they could also make the
ring Yes I need to go and check that now
Then I reassembled my device
carrier here again That wasn 't much
of an effort at all It had just shifted so easily
But the advantage was that because I built this myself it was just a minor repair
I had to replace
two locknuts One I
had to adjust a bit And that's good
I am going back to Sint Maarten to Simpson Bay
And I will do some shopping there right away
I'll stop by the Lagunis again
Then have another coffee
Let's see how it goes from there
This is the gas station and the chip vendor
Here on the other side of the
channel is a little shop They repair
outboard motors and do small repairs I can highly recommend it
This is where Simpson Bay is located
Marine supply chain
There is Lagunis a bar and restaurant over there
Und Tropical Sail FKG
Budget Marine is also a chain
Very very big shop here
You get I wouldn't say everything but you do get a whole lot
I'm going in now
I found a few things Now I'm going
back to Island Waterworld And
to the electronics store
Here are the Lagunis
Famous sailor meeting place
Here is the electrical equipment from the land side
And from the sea side
Also a store where you can get a variety of electronics
Very well organized
here on Sint Maarten Good
infrastructure Some sailmakers
also DL here Really great
And here is FKG
I am now at the Service Center
of Electric There I handed in my
alternator Probably the voltage regulator needs to be replaced
Let me check if it's already done
Yes the dynamo is still not finished
You have tested it and it is running normally
Yes I said that but if it's hot it just has that overvoltage
So the regulator or controller in the alternator has to be replaced They are doing it now
And I'll just kill some time here for a bit
I need to buy a few things at Island Waterworld right away
Yes what happens next in general
I have several offers running
I had already said that
And it looks like the delivery times are around three to four months
Until they arrive
Until that can finally be done
Then I'm naturally here on Sint Maarten
Also already in the hurricane
season We have now the end of April
And if you add four months to that
Or four and a half
Then we'll already be at the end of August
Then we'll already be in September
Then I can't have this done here
Because it's too risky
I also have someone in Grenada working on it
I'm curious to see what price he'll come up with And
as I said no one in Germany is working on it yet
I will probably stay here for a
few more days Maybe a week maybe a week and a half
Then go down the coast or the islands with multiple stops on the machine As close
to the coast as possible as far as it goes
Then move me to Grenada
Where Jumbo will probably be taken out of the water again at the end of May
It will stay there until the end of September beginning of October
I think by then I should probably have an offer already
I can then conclude
I can assign the task here
Secondly it should also fit in terms of delivery times
And I'm thinking that it can probably be done somehow around early October late September
And also on Grenada
It's not 100% hurricane-proof but it's already almost there
It's located at 12 degrees north latitude
That's the plan for now
Also I will stay here for a few more days as I said
I will take care of a few small things here
Then continue driving south on the machine
Mau Beach
Sam and I are now on our way to Grenada
These are about 400 to 450 nautical miles I'd say
Yes without sails it's not as nice
One can only rely on the machine here in principle
That's why I only do day trips
Trying to hop from island to island here
The first stop is now here in St Barth
I'm just staying overnight and in transit
Then Antigua just for a night stopover
Then Guadeloupe
And I won't be clearing Martinique again for a while
Then take a short
break Two days Wash
some clothes again And
do a little shopping
Fill it up a
bit more Then it continues from there
I guess maybe another two or three days to Carriacou
Then on to Grenada from there
Yes I'm still definitely here bringing in offers
This is taking a bit longer than I originally thought
I still don't have a complete offer here after more than two weeks
But something is starting to take shape
Grenada looks pretty
good Then I still have
two other things in the works We'll have to wait
Experts have also been there
The report itself is also available
And the cause itself remains unfortunately unexplained
He could not determine that either
The Rig itself is only three years old
Ultimately Jumbo said it is an exceptionally well-maintained ship
I was always very careful here on board I have kept everything
in order so far I
have taken care of a few things
Here the antenna setup is complete
Then I have set up a temporary antenna here with which I can do a little
That means I can somewhat communicate with sparks over a certain range
I guess I'm about five or six nautical miles here we tested it once
Not even with a direct route but over the mountains
That also worked quite well here even five nautical miles ago
And out here it should be a bit better
Yes the railing is done
I had the mini sewn I've now put it
on That's how it will go on for now
Also for now here is Sabaz and the other islands up to Martinique
Then I'll take a look further
Yes already the first time now in distress here unfortunately
There was a net wrapped around the propeller
I tried to get it working here already but I can't get it to work properly
It's also a bit too dangerous here now
Because the Jumbo is rolling here in the
swell It's still a bit of a landing swell
And I have a few plans set here
Someone has just contacted
us I am three
nautical miles ahead of Gustavia And he is coming over now
I don't know if he wants to drag me in there or if he's helping me get it
free I need to check that right away
Yes somehow
Something always happens this year
Murphy's Law Absolutely
Well we'll get it solved
The Beyond Capricorn One is now en route
It is still more than a nautical mile away
Yes he's probably going tow me away right away
As I understood him on the radio
My heroes Beyond Capricorn One
Gustavia is ahead on the port side
Done
Now anchored here in Gustavia
Everything went well
So now I'll sort things out and thank them over there
Goodbye Thank
you very much
Have a pleasant cruise
Take care
Yes that's the Beyond Capricorn One
Now it continues here
From the neighboring boat
They are from Seattle
Americans
Very good
Here are Richard and Opie
to save me and free my propeller
Gambo is back on the road
Yes at least with the engine
Thank you very much
You're welcome my friend
So everything is already done here
Opie got it relatively quickly
I see you've already done some work while snorkeling
But yes
I couldn't film fast enough But he did
a good job
I am very very grateful
to you Goodbye St Barth
Thank you very much
Have a good
time Bye bye
St Kitts has
been reached It is located here on the port side
A very beautiful view
But there are still about 10 nautical miles to Bastère
It goes in there
Done 43 nautical miles from St Barth down to St Kitts
Everything went well
No unusual occurrences
I can't find the most beautiful
anchoring spot here I also
looked a bit more into how
it's described here And yes very swelly
Today it is rolling out here
Yes it's going
Let's see how it develops
Now there's the well-earned
Anchor Beer To your health
How are you
Yes another little problem
here What do you mean by little For me
it's a big one here under the machine
Something is slowing down here
The Jumbo flight was extremely strong
1500 RPM speed
And had about 4 knots
Didn't want to arrive at Montserrat too early
Yes and then the speed suddenly dropped to 2 knots
Yes I must have caught something
Something is probably dragging on the keel And it
is slowing down the movement here very strongly
I then increased the speed to 2200 revolutions
Currently sailing at 3.7 3.8 knots
Still 19 nautical miles to Montserrat
Also 5 to 6 hours
The other option would be to go back to Nevis to Charlestown
But that is also 15 nautical miles
If I could be a bit faster because the power is also running
But I have now made a decision here
Keep going like this
And hope that my calculation works out here
Yes not good
Montserrat ahead
Oh there was a bubble
Ah there's a whale
Unfortunately
Done Yes not bad
here in the bay
So relatively quiet
I hope it's also safe
At least the police boat is behind me
But I think there's no one on it
I don't think I would reach anyone here if I
tried to contact them I
think they're all glad
I also have off on Saturday evening
I'm not calling anyone here
and then I'll continue tomorrow
I was already down there
I looked at the submarine
There's always a little bit of that on the Sail Drive those small
strips there If anything had been
there which I still strongly suspect
Then it might have fallen
here on the last sea miles
There it also got a bit
better in terms of speed
Maybe the rest is here now when anchoring as I
reset But I think it
was the right decision
ot to try to get back out to sea now
to back up somehow to get free or something like tha
Then getting something into the screw
Yes I had also
already thought a bit here because I
am up to the keel
I had assumed something was
afoot
couldn't get to
the keel and then somehow
cut it through like this
Yes I've got it all prepared
now I'll leave it like that for now
until I get down to Grenada
I'm glad
That everything here worked ou
Now of course the well-earned Anchor Beer
Yes I have a good feeling here
Goodbye Little Bay
I am on my way here now towards
Guadeloupe I am driving around the southern tip of Montserrat
Here is a large restricted area
This was set up back then after
the volcanic eruption at the end
of the 1990s The entire southern part has been abandoned here
Very sad and the
people then fled again from here
completely off the island
or started anew in the north
I liked Little Bay it
was a very very quiet nig
And there is Guadeloupe
Our destination today is Anzala Bark
Nice calm water
where you can motor well
It must be there in front
So let's see where I can squeeze
in I think right here in front
So here between
the two he falls right away Yes that
was unfortunately nothing
it didn't look good now
I'm going a little further ahead
So reverse gear is engaged we are not moving that
means
the anchor is holding
So I am now anchoring here at 11.40
meters I have let out 35 meters of chain
And turn on the alarm here as well overnight
I set it to 40 meters
from the current
location so that should
be all okay Yes nice bay
I'm almost in Le Marais still
three hours of driving along the
coast Yes yesterday was a relatively
tough day 15 hours on the move
Started relatively early and then the sea was very very rough but today
it's fairly okay here
Even if you are violently shaken by the machine here
Le Marais is the first stage destination
I will be glad when I arrive here after
seven days under the machine
These were always full days
I left early in the morning and arrived late in the evening
also after sunset yesterday
I will refuel with diesel here again in Le Marais
and test me
do the laundry
do a few small things here on board
I will probably continue
tomorrow or if I need a bit
longer then the day after
Yes everything is fine so far
Everything went pretty well here lately
Yes but transport sails
are not much fun either
Under sail yes
This is so much fun
but now here to sail the sailboat
Yes there are nicer things
but well there's nothing else
Here is a large cargo ship which is currently being loaded with sailboats which will then
return to Europe on the ship
I ended up staying here in Le
Marais for a few more days
it's already Monday today
because I asked Caribe again
Whether they want to do the mast and the rig here
They are currently creating the offer
and hopefully it is here now
No it should be ready
by late morning then I
really want to go towards Santa
Lucia Yes let's see
It's gotten quite warm
already in mid-May here I
didn't remember it being
that warm here two years ago
But yes it's summer here
Another goodbye to Martinique
I don't even know how many
times I had a very very good conversation here with Caribe
They will probably get the contract
she needs to read
between the lines again here talk to the
insurance company but it looks very good
I could have stayed here but now
I have all that down there
With the insurance Well
so right now they are about
270 nautical miles ahead of me
I hope everything goes well
I made it I'm now here in Clarkscourt Bay
These were 175 nautical miles
down here from Martinique
4 days Nothing is ever that simple between the islands
It was partly very rough but
also quite heavy seas between
Santa Lucia and Back Bay The
autopilot motor failed once
I have to manually steer it for
10 hours I then switched it in the evening
at the Port Elizabeth Back Bay
It starts again the next morning
The rest here down was okay so far
I clarified Kariakou
and then here the final blow
down to Clarkscourt Bay I
am making preparations here
because the Jumbo is going
In a few days out
of the water
and I will fly a few days later to Germany and the Jumbo will now remain
here in the Clarkscourt
Bay Marina on land
This is a Hurricane Hole
on Grenada at about 12
degrees north latitude
This means that here one is
Not completely out
of the hurricane
zone but still just barely
in the south but the probability that
a hurricane passes through here
It is relatively low and secondly
this is an established Hurricane
Hole and I don't have the mast
on anyway so I'm probably safe
Then additionally protected
or the risk for Jumbo
should be relatively low
Yes that's how it looks and then it continues here
and out of the water in a few days
The Jumbo is now on land it
came out here two days ago and
since then I've been spinning
around That's a lot of work
o get all of this done here
That one can leave the Jumbo
here alone for a few
months but it still runs The water
maker is preserved here
and a thousand other things
which I have done here
Today I also issued the order
for the new mast
It's going to Martinique
and Caribe Grément got the
contract because it was simply
the closest to the type offer
and the scope of the offer
What I had in mind or
exactly what I did was what I
wanted The other two providers
were FKG on Sint Maarten
It was relatively difficult
with the communication there
And here down below once again
turbulence over
Grenada They weren't
that bad in terms offerings but
ultimately it also didn't satisfy me
The comprehensive offering was
missing On Martinique everything is
included the radar the electrical
system whether that all works properly
It is now a different topic
But at least they made a great effort there during the
offer phase which was not
the case with the others
I was very satisfied there
with FKG Marien and they have all seen it
and I have a good feeling about it
So the Jumbo will stay here until the end of September
and I am flying back
on the 27th together with Anke Then
we will probably rent a
room here for
a few more days
and then here for two days on
land prepare
everything so that she
can go back to sea and then
here at the buoy or before Anke also aga
get a mask
and then the mask should be placed there
That's the plan Everything
is good so far
I'm flying home tomorrow
I'm really looking forward to it Four months of
home leave just once
without sailing is also okay
I am glad that everything is good
Also see you
