Hello Yes welcome to a
new episode of Sailing Benko
One of the most exciting episodes at least for us hopefully
Hopefully also for you
Yes of course for you too
We are going into the water in a few days
And we are incredibly excited nervous and scared
It really all comes together like this
Emotional chaos
Emotional chaos exactly
And we arrived here a few days earlier because we still need to prepare some things
You saw it in the last video where we already sanded a page
That means we will now sand the other side the keel as well
There are still a few other small things that need to be prepared before we go into the water
Then great everything works the boat is watertight the engine works
We will find out everything together with you then
But we're not alone this
weekend We've brought
strong support In the
form of Hello I'm also in
Yes very good Steffi's sister is helping us again That makes us very
happy And we are going to
start the sanding work right away
Let's go
Yes you can already see me next to our keel
We spent the whole day yesterday sanding down the underwater hull
That was a tremendous job
Every muscle aches and I'm really glad the girls helped out
That really made a big difference
And why did we do all of this
Simply because when you paint Coppercoat it's all that is this copper
It is enclosed in epoxy which later causes the anti-fouling effect
That means you paint it on
If one were to simply walk into the water only epoxy would
come out and there would be no anti-fouling effect at all
This means that everything must be sanded once to activate the copper
And in the end it has various stages
Actually this area here is quite good what we have done here
That means a lot a very lot of copper you can see it it's slightly shiny it comes ou
Thus there is a good anti-fouling effect
Of course there are still places on the boat because it was very exhausting yesterday
and we also haven't reached every spot where there's a little more epoxy
That means we still have to do a bit more work
today we'll do it right away And I'll also attach the victim anode right away
Yes the first victim anode is up
Here you can also see we still need to do a bit more grinding on the copper coat
We will do that right away
But a victim node generally for those who don't know we install at the boat
Simply because she sacrifices herself before the main material is attacked
We might still remember from our chemistry class that when we put different metals into water
Then they attack each other and the least noble metal is dissolved first
These are magnesium or zinc anodes
These are very non-noble metals which means they get corroded
Even if there are electric currents in the water or anything else that could attack the hull
Then it goes to the sacrificial anodes
And we will now distribute them around the ship and to the
helm They also need to be regularly replaced
Every season or every two years depending on how much is going on
You can just check in on how they're doing down there
And this is what it looks like These are
poor pigs They are only there
to sacrifice themselves
Finally we're done with the damn paperwork
Sorry but I have to say it but it's really been annoying
It would be a lie if I said
this was fun But we're done
And it's always nice when you've accomplished something
And that was also hopefully for the time being something with the loop
Now we'll take care of things a bit or prepare
a bit tomorrow on the water And
here I have our mooring line
And that is a total of 44 meters
We will now cut it into pieces
Because we want to divide it into two 16-meter sections and two 6-meter sections
And exactly that's where we'll now get back to the
thawing with heat and check if everything works
As a small trick or perhaps many of you already
know it we always cut the lines this way
We just use a piece of tape to mark where we want to cut
Then simply cut through here with a cutter or a knife
Then it is sealed with heat at the back
That's why we do it this way because if you just cut through here
They would quickly start fraying and you would actually have no
chance of getting a nice finish So
always stick a piece of tape on it
Hey guys it's finally here Today
is the day we get launched
into the water We've already prepared the boat as much as possible
I had the fenders out and the mooring lines ready
and I was as nervous as I've ever been in my life
Truly this is a huge moment
Steffi is just downstairs and is just clearing away the last things
But I tell you I'm crossing my fingers so hard that
everything works everything is tight and the engine starts
and that we will then also safely get
into the box where we will be for
the next half year We will actually be going to the neighboring marina for half a year
And there make a few small returns some repair work and just in the
water because there are a few things
which you can do better in the water
We just took it upon ourselves to do
that The mechanic was also here a few weeks ago
overhauled the engine as much as possible and it's actually pretty okay now
Except for one thing he looked at the transmission and said
that with the transmission he doesn't give it much longer to live
That means we will probably go back into the water again
in March next year and have the transmission repaired a bit
This is somehow still uncertain
For now it's probably okay for the next few months everything is cool
But when we go on a big trip we don't want to take
any risks and I want to look at that again for sure
or have it repaired
And yes that's how we're now nervously waiting for our appointment to get it straightened out
and see how it goes
I am very curious how everything will now take place
I can't believe it today we're going into the water
I hope everything works out
Now the nervousness is slowly rising but we'll manage
We also have active support from my sister
Also that will certainly all work out
Hey guys not so
good news You see it it's in the water
Good news it seems to be tight as well
Now no water is getting in which is good it's floating
The problem is the engine and that's really super shitty
I was really glad we had the mechanic here again for the water
And also told me to take another look at it when we start it up and so on
And it just broke down the water pump
The engine is cooled by seawater and there is a pump that pumps the whole thing in
She just lost her spirit for whatever reason That means it has
to be replaced and then there are still about three or four hoses
They don't look quite good and a few things that still need to be changed
This means our actual plan to now go to Kapo
Nord and to our water mooring is not possible
Because if we turn on the engine it overheats which is not a good situation
Therefore they will now haul us up here and let us rest briefly at the water landing place
So that they can carry out the repairs next week and then it will work
Also of course cool that we are now in the water which also pleases me
Another thing is really annoying because again something isn't working and it gets on your nerves in the long run
Because whenever you try to do something big something always
goes wrong and it would be really cool if everything worked once
But I also know that we are not alone with this everyone has the same problems
And even everyone we follow everyone we talk to it's always such a hassle
you just hate it
It's still annoying because it was a big moment for us to launch it now
Emotional and really crazy and now it's just not going quite as we had imagined
But fortunately it's not a total loss which means everything is repairable hopefully and then
we'll see from here how it goes
Phew today feels like three days crammed into one
Yes we are now in the water were moved again because
of the engine problem we could not maneuver ourselves
and then a small boat was pulled out of the box here into the harbor
He drove a little round with us and then actually just shoved us into the gap here
and now we're securely fastened and now I think we just have to stay here for a while
So take it easy it was really a lot today just a lot has happened
That was really emotional everything and exactly now we're just curious to see what happens next
so hopefully the mechanic will come in the next few days
Then we'll see what he or she can help us with on short notice
Good morning everyone you can see we've made ourselves a bit comfortable here on board
The first night is behind us we have slept in the water again
and you can tell the mood is a little better than yesterday
We have gotten over the initial shock and fortunately everything is
fixable so we really enjoyed it that we can lie in the water today
And now here in the sunshine with a view of the harbor we can enjoy our
breakfast that's already something special and even on the way to the supermarket
Steffi and I both said how incredible a different feeling it is
When you are in the water it no longer feels like a construction
site but much more like the boat and yes it's simply wonderful
We are filling up our water tanks today or rather cleaning them
We actually got an additional activated carbon filter because
the water here is already okay but better safe than sorry
We filter this once and then we are twice sure that no
bacteria get into the tanks for this we use this Puratank here
I ordered the whole thing just now through Amazon I read a bit about it there
and also Jachtikon really has cleaning products for everything
But it had a very good rating and therefore I felt the best there
I have now taken it and exactly with this we will now fill the tanks
Then add water and let it sit for 24 hours until everything is nice and clean
Then finally yes exactly we have to drain it and then refill it with new water
Yes it's really crazy how much goes into the tank or the two tanks
We have been sitting here for almost half an hour and they keep checking if everything is sealed but it is
We are still waiting we are now rinsing so we have now
completely drained the tank or both tanks the water
Then again now they will be filled again and then drained again
Then that should actually be enough
Yes Bora has arrived it's blowing strongly today but the weather is superb
Yes we'really done now this weekend or this extended weekend
so much has happened and yes really cool that we're in the water
Even though we still have the issue with the engine I hope that will pass quickly too
Yes then we hope you enjoyed the video again
like it and check out our other channels
