Hi guys, I'm Harlow. Welcome back and today we're doing a riding routine. So in a minute I'm going
to go go polk whenever. I've got to put my wellies on first because these boots already need to clean
and I don't want to get them even muddier. We're going to do some jumping today so I need to set
up all the jumps. My mum's ordered some brand new jumps and I'm very excited. You can come out here
and see them. They arrived the other day. They arrived here as well which is good because my
mum didn't have to load them up in the car. So here are the jumps. They're quite big. I think
we're going to stick to like down here for today. We've also got some rainbow poles around here.
They're all wrapped in plastic which is quite bad but there's nothing really I can do about it.
My mum also ordered six other poles. Some of them are pink and white but some of them
are blue and white. They're a lot smaller. They're like half the size of this.
So like from the red to the black or navy I can't see because it's plastic. That's like the size of
them. So we tried to get here about three o'clock. It's like three o'clock now so it doesn't affect
his turnout because turnout for popcorn is really really important because he has had ulcers.
I'm sure a lot of you know but we're trying to keep the possibilities of them coming back as
low as possible so they do not come back. So that means lots of turnout, lots of eating.
Where's popcorn? Oh there you are. Squirrel. The squirrel. Was that him?
Remember when he whinnied from the walker and I was going to go get him in the walker.
It's really deep. Why?
Oh look they're all standing there. They're the yearlings.
Yeah um right I need to get on now. He's he's snorting. Yeah.
Oh we're off in the wrong direction. Let's go. No you know those like shower cap like in the
1980s where people had those like shower caps on. From up here the popcorn's like neck attachment
looks like one of those around his head. You look like you've got a shower cap on popcorn.
Wait no. What's that thing that goes like on the old town road? On the old town road we're gonna
ride till I can't no more. I'm gonna take my horse to the old town road. I'm gonna ride till I can't
no more. I can't get his head up. Come on popcorn. No I literally I can't get it. There we go.
All right shower cap pony. Let's go. I've just got popcorn in the wash bay and now I'm gonna
take his rug off and then spritz those legs down. Probably gonna get up to like
his tummy because um quite muddy today aren't you popcorn? This is the new hose attachment so let's
see if it works on popcorn's grey socks. Three two one. Oh wow. Oh that is cool. Oh my goodness.
My hands are staying like dry and inside this contraption here is shampoo so you know it's not
just some like crazy fluid it's shampoo. And let's see the front ones. Three two one. It's actually
like a magic wand. Oh my goodness. I'm gonna wash that back leg down as well. Now you can actually
stay from like quite far back as well. I'm gonna wash the ends of his tail. This is kind of like
his whole tail apart from his dog but yeah this is like a little grass stain there. Can I quickly?
Sorry popcorn you just got like a little. I'm just gonna turn it on to the non-bubbly setting.
Now popcorn is all rinsed. I also need to get you untied to put you
monkey in your stable so you can eat. Yeah so I will continue the grooming in popcorn's stable now.
So now we groom him in this stable because it gets his stomach full because if you ride on an
empty stomach it's not good for ulcers but if you ride on a nice full stomach then one they're not
going to be hungry and two it's really good for his ulcers. The best thing for him to do is to have
30 to 40 minutes of hay before he's ridden. We also will give him a pre-feed but he does have
his hay first. Here's my chance whilst he's got his head down to get this mud out. Oh my goodness.
So for the grooming I'll make sure his body is all brushed down but yeah also his mane's like
growing. All we need this to do now is just like drop onto that side. I think it's the rug that
keeps on pressing it down because I need him to dry off as well before we ride. So now I'm just
spraying popcorn's tail in the tangular because he's obviously been galloping around because one
his legs are very muddy and two his tail's very knotty so sign of a good time. We never used to
groom popcorn in the stable it was always in the tie-ups but now he's had ulcers we always want to
be really cautious and we don't want him to come back. So he gets a pre-feed so in a minute I'll
make his pre-feed but I want him to you know have hay as well. I also think he finds it quite nice
to have like a extra dinner like his main course. Like his starter then he gets his main course and
he gets his pudding which is treats. Yeah he likes that. So popcorn's tail's really starting to grow
out. If you remember when we first got popcorn's tail was like this and now it's kind of just like
like that. So I want to like do a plait but like I don't know how it would go.
I think it needs to be a bit longer popcorn but it's really getting there it's grown
so much like it used to be like that and now it's like that and it's quite a big progress
like it's pretty good. Also popcorn's tail's really long. So in here is popcorn's massage pad
it's the equilibrium massage pad and popcorn absolutely loves it. The first time that we put
it on popcorn, popcorn's nose was like like that it was really really funny and then this
goes around his chest this then this goes on like a little rug so so and then
this one goes here and here of the control panel.
Now we've got to be also very very careful with popcorn because if this if he rolls on this
so so it's so this button's just on and off then should go high.
We're gonna leave this on for at least half an hour so he has a nice massage on his back
but whilst that is going on I continue my grooming. He absolutely loves his massage pad
it's probably one of his favourite things and we use the massage pad for every single time we ride
so what you're seeing today is basically what we get up to. I also need to make his pre-feed which
I might go and do now actually. So in here is the feed room now everyone's feed is already made
the ones along this side are the feeds now and then obviously we've got popcorn's tiny feed
where's popcorn's on the tiny feed so poppins is the smallest bucket because he's the smallest
pony on the yard um another bucket this is popcorn's all right I'm gonna rinse the bucket
out because I don't want any bacteria in here run my hand around the bucket make sure there's no
nothing in here because like if a horse did have anything in here like any supplements
that weren't rinsed out properly and they were like really really strong supplements that could
make popcorn really really ill so this is what popcorn has for his pre-feed he does not have
this for his dinner it's only for his pre-feed which means it's his feed before we ride so is
that enough or a bit more so I'm just gonna wash my hands first as well we're not gonna soak it
because that's what I like doing make popcorn soup but we don't want this to be too dry
rinse this off because they use this for stirring the feeds and we don't want like
if a horse didn't wasn't allowed this feed then they stirred it with that
there you go bring that a bit closer to you should go set up the jumps
I think we should also I need to ask Claire something
Claire oh sorry to interrupt your conversation but please may we use the quad bike to carry the
jumps in yeah not too heavy I think we might have to do one by one because this is like taking up
the whole thing oops right now it's time to tack up popcorn we've set up all the jumps
um there's only one but we've got some race trotting poles as well
but now we're going to wear the Loire truffle I have a trouble pronouncing that because
I don't know it's just strange so should we put this on your popcorn
just got some shavings on your back make sure that's on the other side
is that good
oh slippy now for jumping I usually wear a half pad on top so here is the saddle
I think might be something wrong on the other side yeah that's good
just pop that on your pooch popcorn I'm gonna really lift up the saddle pad
at the front this is popcorn's ken and master's pony club saddle which is fitting him really
really nicely um he hasn't had like a single problem ever since I haven't worn this ear
bonnet yet no my mum's also popped the exercise shirt on his bum to keep him warm we're doing a
jumping boots I'm sure we're gonna love it today popcorn just gonna check the girth before I get
on here that can go up put up one on the other side as well when you're going to be even each
side so I have it on four and four thank you Carmen um yes please I think we need to clean
one two three thank you
so today we are going to be doing raise trotting poles and then we're going to be doing jumping
this is all part of building up his fitness and his muscle I think the jumping's really
really helping him with this and it's something that he absolutely loves um don't you
yes you do I'm very excited to jump these jumps for the first time today don't knock me down
so this is what I do for the warm-up I start off with a really really nice long loose rein
just to get him stretching even though he has had the massage pad on I do still just like to
stretch him I'm going to do the stretching and walking and in trot I probably do about three
or four times walking around the big arena um on both brains um then I start doing some
bigger circles in trots okay and whenever he like really stretches and really feels for it
I give him a little pat or I say good boy just to like remind him that he's going doing the right
thing so those are skinny poles so that makes my my brain and his brain really really thinking so
I've got to be really accurate as with longer poles like the ones over there I don't really
have to think not as much but just like if I'm a tad off the center of it it doesn't really matter
don't put on the poles don't put on the poles it's like a millimeter away from putting on the poles
so I've just finished my ride with popcorn and now I'm going to wash my bit off
I always do this because it can still have some grass that's been like in their teeth and it can
just like go onto the bit and it probably won't be that nice when they put it back in their mouth
it will dry up and then it could scratch his mouth so again just want to take every caution
so every single time I will wash his bits and we actually found out a secret about the toes
Kira one of the grooms told me you can do this and you can do
this which is very very handy because before we were like we were trying not to get our leather
wet but now it's a lot easier I mean my left is still getting a bit wet because I'm a bit clumsy
where I point the hose but um I mean it's easier so if you've got a horse or pony make sure you
get in a habit to wash your bit every time you ride um you don't have to do it before because
if you wash it after your last ride it will still be clean
popcorn is all tucked away in bed now um he's got all of his hair on the floor now because the vet
said it's better for him to like stretch now you guys know what we get up to every single time we
ride I hope you found it interesting and I'll see you soon bye
