I told you stop peeing on my floors!
Alright, here we go!
Nate and Sutton back with another video.
Today we have a super highly requested one.
Our first year of marriage.
I think you are so interested after he mentioned me being crazy.
I think she's crazy.
There's moments in our marriage, in our first year, where I actually thought Sutton was losing her mind.
And we're going to get into that. I know that's the juicy stuff that you all want to know.
And then you all say that I was not losing my mind.
I'm starting to wonder if I was the one losing my mind.
But we'll touch on that here in a few minutes.
Sutton wanted to explain the intro.
I was just telling him, I was like, I hope people...
Well, first of all, he wanted to do this dumb intro.
It's all about catching the people's attention.
You gotta get them right away.
I did not want to do that.
People are clicking through YouTube and you get...
Come here!
Anyways, I just told him before I turned the camera on.
I was like, I never even knew it was a thing for guys to pee on the floor until I married you.
Or is it just you?
Well, first of all, by peeing on the floor, she means when I go to the bathroom sometimes I may miss.
It's not like I walk around the house just peeing all over the place.
Sometimes you make mistakes.
Especially in the middle of the night when you can't really see what you're doing.
So now I sit.
I can't believe I sit on the stinking toilet to pee.
I can't believe you're announcing that to everyone.
Only in the middle of the night though.
Our first year of marriage started from the top, Sutton.
Our wedding day was so great.
But surprisingly, it rained almost all day long.
Like, pouring down rain.
And we had an outdoor ceremony so that was a little scary.
Yeah.
But it's funny how much I didn't...
I was not worried about that.
I was just like, we're gonna get married at the end of this and that's all that matters.
I don't care if we get married in the rain.
We're getting married outside.
Because our indoor option was no good.
We film weddings for a living.
So it's funny seeing how caught up people get about all the little details of the wedding day.
When really all that matters is that you get married at the end of the day.
I feel like we kept that perspective pretty well.
And sure enough, it was raining all day long.
And right before the ceremony, God cleared the skies.
The sun was coming out.
I'll never forget when we were walking down the aisle after we had kissed each other.
There was literally a sunbeam shining on us.
It was pretty amazing.
And then after our wedding, we had the wedding night.
Our first night together as husband and wife.
How excited were you on the way there?
A lot of people want to know, as virgins, was our wedding night awkward?
And we're actually gonna make a whole video on that topic coming soon.
So stay tuned for that.
So then our honeymoon that I had planned.
She did all the wedding planning stuff.
I had planned the entire honeymoon.
And it was a complete surprise where we were going.
I wish we were vlogging back then.
That would have been fun.
I knew it was gonna be somewhere warm.
I think that was the only hint I got just so I knew how to pack.
And it was a surprise all the way up until we got on the plane, right?
To the gate.
Yeah, to the gate.
And then I saw it on the sign.
We ended up going to Turks and Caicos.
And we had the most ridiculously awesome spot.
We had this entire beach to ourselves.
I've never felt more like a Kardashian in my life.
Yeah, so we're actually gonna do a honeymoon video too.
We're doing all kinds of videos we can't keep up.
So be sure to subscribe if you want to see them.
And we did video that too.
We made a video of our honeymoon.
Back to real life.
After the honeymoon was over, we moved into our apartment together.
Which we were so excited about.
I had found this cool little apartment in Athens, Georgia.
The weeks leading up to our wedding, we would just go in there and sit in the apartment together.
Like an empty apartment.
We would get a wedding gift.
People would mail you wedding gifts before your actual wedding day.
So we would get a gift and then we would go all the way there just to put it there.
Even if it was a dish.
Yeah, because we didn't live together beforehand.
We were just so excited to be in our own little home together.
So we would just go there and sit.
And it was always like a sad moment when we had to leave.
Yeah, you should show.
We videoed that too.
You should show.
We video everything.
Even before we had intentions of doing YouTube.
Yeah, what did we video?
We videoed our apartment.
Moving forward, our first year of marriage together was super unique in the sense that
we started our own business together.
Wedflix, as many of you have heard about.
Which is kind of crazy because we were spending and still do spend all day every day together.
It's funny to think how most couples, they're going to work so they're getting a break from
each other all day.
So they're like excited to see each other or something when they come home.
But we're like with each other.
All.
Yeah.
And I love it.
Do you love it?
I love it too.
I don't think we were either, either of us were very cut out for us to be going to work
at a different place.
I know.
I, yeah, I tell this to Sutton Sutton.
Like I get sad when she leaves.
Like I don't like it when she goes places.
That's cute.
So speaking of spending all day.
You see that?
It's landing.
Land on me.
Tickle me.
No.
It's landing on your drink.
Are you joking?
Not right now.
Oh.
I can't see.
I'm so blind.
Speaking of spending all day together every day.
I think that probably has resulted in some of our fighting.
Which I think is what all you guys want to hear.
How, what we fought about.
How intense was it.
How we got through it.
How many times you slapped me.
Whatever.
As we were preparing for this video we were trying to write down some fights that we had
gotten and so we could talk.
Which was bad news for him.
So we could talk about them.
And turns out I couldn't really think of anything that she did.
Like, you know, we came up with a lot of things that I did that started fights but I couldn't
really think of.
But I don't know, I don't really think that's because you didn't do anything wrong.
I just think it's because I have a way of forgiving and forgetting.
Oh no.
And you like to keep a record book of everything that I ever did.
No I don't.
They were a big deal to me.
Like a lot of these things.
They were a big deal.
Alright, so let's talk about all the things that I did that caused fights.
Something we got in a fight about most often, which is why I didn't forget it, is because
it was happening like all the time.
It actually happens to this day.
It still happens.
But something we get in a fight about is like Facebook and Instagram.
Just how we talked about on previous videos how you just can't get away from inappropriate
pictures.
And he is friends with all these people on Facebook that he doesn't actually know who
they are because he went through a time in his life where he's just like friend requesting
the world.
No, I just accepted friend requests.
He had like the max amount of friends you can have on Facebook.
He had them.
So it was all these people that he doesn't know and they would post things, like really
bad things.
Like completely naked and he would have to tell me like can you take this person off
my Facebook.
And I didn't accept these friend requests knowing these people did this.
It was just like I thought they were like a normal person and then they'd post nude
pictures later.
How would it happen?
Would you like go on my Facebook and see that or what would I tell you?
You would tell me.
But you were always telling me.
It was like, okay, one time like yeah, you know, I can't help it.
But it was like every day it felt like.
Yeah, it was happening a lot where like some naked girl would pop up on my social media.
It always seemed to be the top of my Facebook.
So I ended up creating a rule where I was not allowed to scroll on Facebook, hoping
that my closest friends would pop up at the top of the newsfeed.
But it just kept happening where naked people would pop up and I'd tell her.
I mean, I thought I was doing a good thing by telling her.
You were doing a good thing.
That this was happening.
It was a good thing, but I'm sure all you can imagine, it's frustrating.
Like when it's just happening all the time.
So let's take a vote.
Who thinks Nathaniel should delete his Facebook and start over with people he actually knows?
I've been petitioning for that for about four years now.
Well, she's been deleting all my friends on Facebook that I don't know, which I think
is a good option.
Similarly, on that same note, I think a lot of fights that we got in was things on TV, right?
Yeah.
Sometimes you'll be watching a show and you just don't know that something crazy is going
to pop up.
But I turn away as quick as I can, but sometimes it's not fast enough for her.
It's so funny to talk about these things because people watching this, y'all might
think that we're like crazy, but what's a good thing is I feel like we're equally like
that.
Like we equally get upset about things like that.
Like if my eyes lingered a little too long on TV, he would get mad too.
So it's not like I'm asking him to do something that, you know, he wouldn't want me to do
or that I wouldn't do.
One thing I realized that in our first year of marriage was that I think we were just
really sensitive people.
Yeah.
Like there was times she would call me ding dong or a brat and I would get so mad about
it because I just, I was never, no one growing up, I was like my family, we never called
each other names like that playing around.
It always like if you were called a name and then that you were like in a fight.
But it was always in a joking way.
Like if he said something, I'm like, don't be a brat.
Before we get into probably what was our biggest fight ever, let's talk about what Sutton
did wrong.
Yeah.
So Sutton, one time she, she was getting really mad at me and she just like left the
apartment without telling me where she was going.
And I really don't like that.
Like I told her, I do not want you leaving without telling me where you're going.
I was like going to take Levi on a walk.
Like I brought him.
I don't know that.
I thought you could have been leaving me and never coming back.
Seriously.
But sometimes when you argue, you know, you just got to separate.
And when we're in this little apartment together, like we literally couldn't go somewhere without
seeing the person.
Like you can see them no matter where you go.
So sometimes you just got to separate.
Yeah.
So, I mean, it's fine that she would leave, but I just don't want her leaving and not
telling me she's coming back.
I'm so horrible.
And I know there are so many other things that Sutton did wrong.
Oh no.
But I just, that's how I am.
I just choose not to hold on to these things so I can, so I can live in peace.
It's true.
You know I don't keep record of wrongs.
I just think you have a bad memory.
So let's talk about our biggest fight we ever got in.
And I'm not sure we ever really solved it.
So we might get in a fight again about it right now.
What is it?
About me wanting to talk to other girls or whatever.
Oh, I thought you were past that.
I am.
One time, Nathaniel told me that he has the desire to talk to other girls.
And that really hurt my feelings.
Because I was like, why?
It just made me think like, why am I not enough, you know, for you?
Because for me, it was like I didn't, I didn't need to talk to or catch up with or find out
what's going on with any of my old guy friends.
Because it's like, I just feel like when you're in a relationship, there are no guy friends
for me.
There are no girlfriends for her.
Like, we can have a couple of friends together.
But it's not like I have my guy friend and he has his girlfriends and like, we don't
know those people.
But the people that he was wanting to catch up with are like, know what was going on with
them.
I didn't know them.
And would probably never meet them.
This is one of those things that like that phrase, I want to talk to other girls.
It sounds so bad.
Like, why does he want to talk to other girls?
But it was a misinterpretation.
She doesn't understand what I was saying.
It's not like I want to go on dates with other girls or flirt with other girls.
I was just, a girl had messaged me that I knew from my past and I asked her what was
going on with her.
And she's like, why do you care what's going on with her?
And I was just like, well, I just have an interest in talking to other human beings.
That's what I meant by is that I have an interest in talking to other people, not like talking
to girls specifically.
But you said, that's what you said though.
Yeah, but then I clarified to you what I meant by that.
But I'm still holding on to the first date.
Yeah, see?
This is what happens.
That's a fight that we got, I mean that one probably lingered for a while, huh?
That was a big one.
I think every once in a while it would hit us and we'd be like, man, if people heard
what our biggest fights were about, they'd probably think it was a joke.
We'd be embarrassed.
And now here we are telling it to thousands of people.
So here it is.
What helped get us through this phase of like fighting, I feel like was learning each other's
apology languages, which still comes into practice today.
Yes, everyone knows about the love languages, but do you know about the apology languages?
There's a quiz online for it, just like the love languages, and that's what our marriage
counselor told us to do, and that really changed the way we argued, I feel like.
You learn how the other person wants to be apologized to.
So Sutton likes it when I show regret.
Not only do I have to say sorry, but I have to show like, oh, I regret doing that.
I'll never do it again.
He has to say something like, I shouldn't have done that, or that was wrong of me, or
something like that.
I can't just be like, sorry, because that just means nothing.
Figure out what your partner's apology language is, and it can help you get through a lot
of fights.
You know, we couldn't make a video on marriage without leaving you guys with some bonus tips
to make your first year of marriage a success.
And not only your first year of marriage, but your relationship that you're in right
now, or your future relationship.
So we're going to run down through some tips for you guys real quick that's going to be
epic.
Okay, so our first bonus tip is preparation over promise.
Most people out there don't prepare for marriage, even though it is a huge, it's going to take
up more than half your life being married.
But most people will prepare, like, you know, you prepare for tests, you prepare for a sporting
event if you're an athlete, but no one thinks to prepare for marriage, and you should.
How should they prepare?
The way you prepare to win in marriage is by practicing the attributes of love found
in Corinthians.
You know, love is patient, love is kind, love doesn't dishonor others.
In Corinthians, it tells us all the things that love is and love isn't.
It's very important to become love.
Practice becoming love.
So all of the attributes from those verses are great, and they're super important, but
we want to focus on one, and that one is honor.
Honor is at the heart of every satisfying relationship.
And we all know how to show honor.
You don't, no one has to teach you, and the best way to think about it is like this.
Pretend that you had the privilege of going to dinner with, like, your favorite actor
or recording artist.
Imagine how would you treat them.
If they showed up late to dinner, would you complain?
Would you be like, oh, I don't have, Mr. Jim Carrey, I don't have time for this, I'm going
to have to leave.
No, you would want to show them honor.
You would want to be like, no big deal, it's fine if you're late.
I'm just so honored that you're having dinner with me.
If you were going to that dinner, you may show up early, you may give the other person
the best seat, you may even offer to pay for that meal.
You would just do everything you can to make their experience the good one.
So that's how you should treat your spouse.
And if you are in a relationship now, currently, that you are not feeling honored, maybe you
shouldn't be with that person.
And I wanted to say a quick little note to the guys listening.
How much would we as men stand out if we made the decision today that we were never
going to dishonor another woman again?
And that we would never be a woman's regret?
Even if things don't work out in the relationship, wouldn't it be nice to know that the girl
could move forward knowing like, you know, I don't regret that relationship.
He never dishonored me with his words, with the way he looked at me, the way he treated
me, the way he touched me.
It would be such an amazing thing if we just made that decision today that you're never
going to dishonor another woman again.
How nice would it be for the girls too to have breakups and not have anything bad to
say about anyone.
Yeah.
That would be really nice.
What a tragedy it would be if you were to meet the person that God intended for you
and the person you're supposed to be with, but they didn't want to be with the person
that you are now.
Like someone who's not prepared to get married and someone who doesn't show honor.
I know.
I just couldn't imagine like when Sutton came into my life, what if I wasn't ready?
Like what if you didn't like the kind of person that I was in that moment?
He's told me before that if I would have met him earlier, like maybe two years earlier,
that I may have not liked him.
Oh yeah.
I don't think she would have.
So I think, you know, God knew what he was doing that he probably didn't bring me and
Sutton together until I was prepared.
