Something's bitten Fran here
You ready to eat now?
Welcome back guys, so this morning. It's so windy on the ocean, so we've decided to head inland
We're having a bit of an explore. Fran, what are we up to today?
So we're going for a little bit of a hike to the highest point of the island
See if we can see anything cool. Yeah, yeah, and then we're gonna have to get dinner. We do
We've now finished all of our fish that we caught yesterday, so that's the main objective to catch some food
Let's go for a walk
There's a big jungle crab. If we were desperate, we'd eat him for sure. There's a fair bit of meat in that claw there
But it's only early days, so we're gonna keep on trekking on
Your lucky day, mate
There's crabs of all different shapes and kinds all through this jungle. Look at these guys, the hermit crab
Oh man, if you stop for a second
Literally get eaten alive by mozzies
We better keep going. Oh, I hate you buggers
Something's bitten Fran here. It's had a couple of good goes
Is that itchy?
Yeah, it's itchy everywhere
Come down through the jungle and onto the beach here
The sad thing is on the high tide line of this whole island is just plastic like this is
Just the same as everywhere else on the island, styrofoam, plastic
Water bottles
Once we're done catching food
We're gonna come around and collect as much of that as we can. So sad seeing these paradise islands literally inundated with plastics and rubbish
I've come down onto the beach now and
Hoping to find a coconut to hydrate because it's it's pretty hot here. It's about 98% humidity
That's thirsty work. I'm gonna continue on looking for something to eat. We should call this crab island I reckon Fran
So many crabs
How sad is this? But this is the time we live in. There's crabs burrowing through plastics and rubbish here
this big guy
And this is just all
Plastics, thongs, we've got a thousand thongs here
Found a couple of low-hanging nuts
coconuts
So we're gonna, Fran's gonna get up and get them
Ready? Yeah
All right, be careful with that axe, which way?
Back?
Are you winning? Oh good job
Got one each, eh?
Whoa, good catch
That's it? Yeah
Nice, ready to come down? Yeah
Are you going in front of me? I don't know, whatever you prefer
Got tangled
Nice
Couple of juicy coconuts. Let's knock these open, eh Fran?
There you go, good technique
Yeah
Nice work
It's full?
Nice
Full nut
Well done
Nice limes
Spiky ones
Just when they've just turned a shade of yellow, is when you want them
Think we got enough?
Mission success. These will come in handy later
How's this for a conveniently placed coconut?
That's my kind of coconut tree
Awesome
Whoo, it's windy
Really windy. Yeah, it's in amongst all the piles of rubbish. There's a huge nautilus
Wow
That's amazing
How good's that, eh? It's huge!
Massive
It's bigger than any we saw
How's this for an example of how bad the plastic problem is at the moment in Australia
Here's a little hermit crab. They normally live in shells and this guy's forced to live in a bit of plastic
He can't even hide himself properly. This is just so sad to see
How's this? Up at the high tide line, there's a little baby turtle
Now a turtle this size is just too small to be dying of natural causes and you can't help but think maybe something
like this
Has played a part in it, that's so sad. If it was a shark, of course, you'd see the bites and it'd likely all be taken
Is that a turtle there? I think it's a turtle
Yeah
There's a turtle right in the shallows here just acting a little bit strange. So we're gonna go see if he's okay
She's alright, eh? Yeah, I think so
It's just a dropping tide at the moment
So we did feel like if that turtle left it any longer she'd be high and dry, but thankfully she's all good
That's a big one
Man, they're such an amazing animal. It's good to see this one's in an actual shell like he's meant to be. Put him down
Where are we off to Fran?
I'm gonna try and catch something for lunch
Sounds good. Yeah, let's go catch some lunch. We're getting away
Not to be with the old hand line
Might be almost time to throw a mask on and a spear and see if we can catch some lunch
Nice one for dinner. Nice one for lunch, eh?
So when the coconuts at this stage, this is the good stage to eat we're gonna have a bit of a snack
They're a bit trickier to open up though
There we go
At this stage, they're great to eat. So
Open him up
The milk at this stage isn't great to drink you can still drink it
But it's not as sweet as those green ones and then we've got something exciting planned for you guys the Salvo
We're gonna show you a new recipe you haven't seen before
It's gonna involve these coconuts like this
Ready?
Yum
That is delicious
When we're out here camping on these types of islands, we generally have this like two or three meals a day. It's so nice and
healthy
All right for lunch today, we're gonna do a very tropical island themed ceviche
so we're gonna do in coconut bowls some of those fresh limes we got and
That'll just cook this meat through medium-rare
One for me, one for Fran
And then Fran's gonna take over lunch from here. She'll show you how it's done
Good. Let's go put some lime in it. We're almost good to go Fran
Ready? All the key ingredients
Yeah, yeah
Nice juicy limes
Yeah
Hard to squish
Yeah, they are aren't they?
All right, and that's how we're gonna leave it for about 30 minutes for that fish to cook through through the lemon juice
And we're gonna come back. I'm sure that's gonna be delicious
You ready to eat yours now? Yeah, I'm so hungry
Couple of coconuts didn't cut it for you
All right moment of truth
It's been a long 30 minutes waiting, but there we go. You can see it's cooked medium-rare now
Let's get into it. Why are you holding it?
It's a plate, so if I spill I could eat it
You gonna try yours? Yeah
It's really good
It's even better with the limes
Mmm, oh that's delicious. It tastes like refreshing. Thanks for watching
