Trying to take the scary out of the basement and create a fun place for all of the toys to stay, I built a basement playhouse toy room that looks like a modern farmhouse tinyhouse.
The playhouse has little rooms for a doll/stuffed animal Nursery, Arts and Crafts room, Kitchen, Living Room and Reading nook under the stairs. I used shiplap for the house siding, trimmed in black, cedar and pine.

The goal, turn the scary basement into a fun toy room to house all of the kids' toys.
The Basement Playhouse is a toy room shaped like a modern farmhouse tiny house.
It is about 7.5 feet wide, 16 feet long, and my basement ceilings are about 7.5 feet tall.
It incorporates the under the stairs cove, and it has five designated play areas for
hours of fun.
The tiny house exterior is the easy to install white MDF shiplap with black board and batten
roof and trim.
I've accented the house with natural cedar and stained pine.
The interior and exterior lights help brighten the dark and scary space.
The pine timber portico is finished with leftover cedar shakes.
Checking out the inside, there is a ladder in the center to climb up into the loft.
And of course, there are tiny house doll beds to go in the tiny house playhouse.
The picture frames are simply magnetic cedar pickets mounted to the wall.
Opposite from the nursery is the arts and crafts room.
These fun pink wall control metal pegboards help keep all the art supplies organized and
visual.
I made an accent wall of cedar in a herringbone pattern.
The wood was a little wet when I installed it, so it actually shrunk when it dried on
the wall.
Downstairs is a kitchen and family room with lots of floor space to play trains, cars,
and have many tea parties.
Behind the stairs is a double deep bin organizer for all the toys.
The tongue and groove wood ceiling doubles as the loft's hardwood floors.
In the garage is the reading nook and tablet lounge.
It includes all the soft things.
