Hey guys, welcome back to our channel. Today is a very different video.
It's not something that we typically do,
but it is something that has been requested and it's something that I have been
wanting to do so that I could look back on this at a later time when we are no
longer in this stage of life.
So today's video is a day in the life specifically with a newborn,
but I'm also going to be showing you how our whole day looks with all of our
kids. On this particular morning, Elliot woke up at 6 30.
I gave him a feeding for a good 30 minutes and I decided instead of sleeping
for 30 minutes, I would just get ready for the day.
This is something I don't do every single morning,
but when I do find the time to get ready, I feel so much better in the day,
especially in those early postpartum stages.
Anything to make yourself feel better. I always say, just go for it.
So if you can find an extra 20 or 30 minutes in a day to get ready,
and if that's going to help you feel better, then go for it.
I want to thank native for sponsoring today's video.
My sister actually got me into aluminum free deodorants about 10 years ago.
And since then, that is all that I have used.
So when native reached out to me to try their brand,
the first thing I looked for was their ingredient list.
And I was happy to see they were not only aluminum free,
but paraben free and sulfate free as well.
They're also vegan and cruelty free. I love the texture of this deodorant.
It's really dry. It's not tacky or sticky,
which is another thing that's a make or break for me.
I also love how it lasts all day long.
I have never had to reapply it a second time in a day.
The process of ordering is really simple.
All you have to do is go to their website and you will pick your three cents.
Three deodorants are typically $33, but by using the code in my description box,
you'll save 33% knocking it down to just $24 for all three.
The scents that I chose are the eucalyptus mint, coconut vanilla,
and the sweet peach and nectar. I really don't have a favorite out of the three.
I love all of the smells,
but the last few days I have been leaning towards the sweet peach and the nectar
scent. Thanks again, native for sponsoring today's video.
And remember to use the link and the code in my description to save 33% off your
order. Good morning. Time to wake up.
We have school today. Good morning. Time to wake up.
Once I wake the twins up for school,
the first thing we do is I turn on the TV and we watch funniest home videos.
This has become like their very favorite show and I've noticed a big change in
their moods going to school. I feel like all of first grade,
they kind of were grumpy in the morning and this has just really made them be in
a good mood on the way to school.
So this has been a fun little tradition that we do every morning.
Now with Elliot, sometimes he's asleep,
sometimes he's fussy and sometimes he's just awake and aware and looking around.
And when he's fine,
I will just put him in the swing and he'll just hang out with us here.
If he's being more fussy in the morning,
then I'll put my wrap on and I will hold him in my wrap while I get the kids
ready for school.
Something my kids have been loving are these pancakes from Costco and these are
just like kept on the shelf. You don't need to refrigerate them.
You can actually just eat them like right out of the package and they come with
like two in a pack.
But I heat them up for my kids in the microwave and then they just put syrup on
them and they love them. I'm not the biggest fan of the flavor,
but they love them and it makes a really, really easy breakfast.
Ezra, are you awake? Oh good. Come sit down.
I will say having four kids is a little bit more challenging to get them ready
on time and on the bus. So I try to have a really good evening routine,
which you will see here later in the video,
but that has helped tremendously with getting the kids out the door on time.
I'm just debating if this is worth it to get a diet Coke.
I've never seen the line at McDonald's this long ever in my life. Yeah.
If this was Chick-fil-A, I wouldn't be worried. You know,
we'd get in and out fast, but this is crazy.
The last time I fed him was around 6 30 in the morning and he fed until about
seven. So we're looking at about two hours later and that's kind of typical.
I feed him every two to three hours in the day.
So here we are at nine o'clock and I'm just doing another feeding and changing.
These little baby snuggles are what we do basically all day long.
I love just snuggling a newborn up to my chest.
It's my favorite thing.
We just got home and I got this big package.
So I'm going to actually open this cause this is baby related.
And then I'll also go through my grove package because that got here yesterday,
but I haven't opened it yet. What do you think it is?
Do you think that's what it is?
It's a big one.
Should dad put it together? Yeah. I think that's a good idea.
Okay. Instructions.
There we go. Look how easy that was.
These are going to go like this.
This needs to lock. There we go. I got that one locked.
Here we go. Let me brighten this up.
So this specific stroller is made just to put your car seat in here.
So it's like mostly obviously for like newborns in that stage until we have
another stroller that'll be good.
Like a jogger stroller when he's a little bit older,
but I needed one for him right now and this is perfect.
So these are universal. They fit any size baby.
Okay. And then to strap them in.
Yeah. Is that awesome?
It's like a seatbelt that comes across like this and it straps the baby in.
You're going to sit in there. Okay. Well I'm not going anywhere with him right now.
So that's what you do.
You strap them in and you got a really easy stroller.
The cool thing about these are only like 50 bucks off Amazon.
I'll have this linked in the description box if you guys are interested.
Who do I hear? Who do I hear?
Hi guys.
Look what we got. Oh, he's so excited to show you the stroller. Cool, huh?
The baby.
So you just put the car seat on top of it and then you push him around in his
car seat. He's pushing toys around, huh?
He's having fun with it.
Okay. He's waking up. He's hungry.
I'm going to go get him and change his bum. Cause I think I smell something.
I think I smell something. You smell a green one.
What does that smell like? A green one.
Whatever that means.
It is. This little onesie is a little bit too big for you, huh?
Yeah. Oh my goodness. I'm just too excited to put it on though.
Huh? I wanted to see you wear it. So cute.
Hey buddy, will you go grab me a diaper? This one's too big.
One of those. It's right there on the white thing. Yes. Bring it over.
Yeah. I see he got himself.
This is why the one second he didn't have his mittens on, huh?
Oh, here. Just get that for one second. We're about to feed you.
No, he clawed himself with his fingernails. Is that weird?
Why would he do that? Did you know you used to do that too Ezra?
Plum berry. Ooh, that smells super good.
All the mom's scent and some all purpose spray.
Let's see. This one is one I haven't. Oh, the rainwater. Rainwater.
I think I've smelled this one before. Oh yeah. That smells really,
really good. Body lotion.
And these are like my favorite things in the world. The caldrea,
the pear blossom agave. So dang good.
And then the spiced pumpkin. Good stuff.
Good stuff. At about six 30 every night,
I have the kids jump in the bath and while they're doing that,
I will put this wrap on and I will start making dinner.
So even if Elliot's sleeping,
I will slip him into this wrap just because I love this time with him.
I love to just have him close to me and while I'm making dinner and eating
dinner, I will have him wrapped up on my chest.
If you guys are interested in this wrap,
I will have it linked below. This is the Solly wrap.
I just found them on Instagram and personally,
these are my favorite wraps that I have ever used.
People say I sound like Mila Kunis. Yeah. I've never heard that.
What can we switch those? Yeah, for sure.
Trying to tell
all about
the same. My soul.
Basically.
Whoa. Whoa. What's happening?
Get those moves out before bed, huh?
Oh, wow.
Thank you. Ezra.
Keep making bubbles over there. Okay.
You're so cozy.
I wanted to really show you the last part of the day where I focus on his
evening routine just because babies thrive on routine.
So if you can get them on some kind of routine,
then they will do a lot better when it comes to sleeping.
So what I do every night is after we eat dinner,
I take him out of the wrap and I will give him his bath right after his bath.
I put lotion on him. I put his jammies on.
I will come and wrap him up and then I will give him another feeding.
And usually before I even start feeding him,
he's already starting to fall asleep.
Like he knows the second after the bath, it is time for bed.
And so that is just something I would highly suggest.
The second you have your baby is to really try to set up some kind of evening
routine with them.
Okay. I just wanted to show you my nightly setup.
Like what I have here for Elliot while he is sleeping through the night.
So he sleeps in our bassinet that's just right here next to our bed. Um,
and he was asleep until I started talking. Um,
but anyway, I always have a big jug of water cause I get so thirsty when I'm
nursing. It's the weirdest thing. I don't know if everybody feels that way,
but I swear like the second he starts nursing, I feel dehydrated in my mouth.
So I keep this here full of water.
Something else I do is I empty out this trash every night and I literally fill it
the next day with just stuff, diapers, whatever, like pee diapers.
So I like to have an empty one so I can easily throw all the diapers away in the
middle of the night. I always keep four diapers here.
That's typically how many diapers I will go through in the night.
So I keep four here, a pack of wipes and then two burp cloths just in case he
spits up on stuff. This is a sound machine. However,
we have just been using our little heater. I just have the air on,
but he loves that sound.
So we've had that turned on more recently rather than the sound machine.
And then last but not least, well,
the nursing pillow I will just throw right here on the side of the bed and then
his Owlette. So you guys saw me put his sock on.
I want to show you guys how this works because I had no idea until I bought one.
Okay. Let me like lower the light so that you guys can see this better.
So here's the app. When you open up the app, um,
just right here, this little owl.
So in the night it'll tell you his oxygen right now is at a hundred percent and
his heart rate is at one 26 beats. So you can see right there,
it says he's wiggling. You can see him wiggling right here.
So it's kind of funny that it shows that,
but I don't worry in the nighttime when he's sleeping.
All I do is I check this base and if it's glowing green,
then I know that he's good even though he's on the other side of the room.
But anyway,
I swear by the Owlette and I wish I had it with every single one of my kids.
I had heard mixed reviews, um,
about it because I guess the old sock,
you could kick it off really easily and now they've added an additional strap.
So it's like really hard for the baby to kick it off. So anyway,
it was sending off a lot of false alarms for people, which was freaking them out.
Um,
I have had it go off before while I was holding him and I didn't put the sock on
good enough. So I know what the alarm sounds like.
I would much rather have to deal with an alarm going off than the panic and fear
of thinking your child isn't breathing or, um,
constantly waking up in the night and checking on them.
When we had our last baby Ezra, every few hours I would wake up,
I'd run over to him and I would frantically shake him to make sure he was
breathing.
And I just wish I would have had this because had we have had the sock,
I could have, again, looked at the light. It's fine. He's okay. You know,
it just kind of takes that worry away.
So definitely recommend the Owlette.
The little old lady who was not afraid of anything.
Say, dad, what is that? That's not the accent you speak in.
I only do it when I do her voice.
One windy afternoon the little old lady left her cottage and went for a walk in
the forest to collect herbs, spices,
nuts and seeds, shining through the night. Started to walk home.
Get out of my way, shoes. I'm not afraid of you,
says the little old lady, but behind her, she could still hear two shoes.
One pair of pants. Wiggle, wiggle.
Farther still the little old lady bumped into a shirt a little bit faster,
but behind her, she could hear him. One scary pumpkin head.
Go.
Oh my goodness.
I'm not afraid of you, said the little old lady bravely.
What do you want anyway?
Something I started doing every night this school year is putting the kids
clothes out the night before because I swear we always had a problem with
finding shoes or socks or something like that in the night,
which that just reminded me I need to go get their socks because that's another
problem. I can never find enough clean clothes for the next day.
So I like to do this the night before and it helps our mornings go so much more
smoothly. Another thing I do is I prepare their lunches the night before.
So I have everything ready in the fridge to go.
And then I also put their backpacks here by the door.
Their homework is done and they're in their backpacks.
So they are just ready to go. All we have to do is eat, get ready,
and we can be out the door.
If you followed me on Instagram or on YouTube for a while,
then you already know every night I cannot go to bed unless my kitchen is
clean. So that's something else that I have to end my night with.
When everyone else is asleep in the house,
I come and do a little cleaning in here so that I wake up to a clean kitchen
because if I have a clean kitchen,
I feel like my whole day just starts out really good.
You probably can also hear I have some towels going in the laundry room.
So I just like to have everything like done and ready for the next day to get
going. So when I wake up in the morning,
I will have dishes to put away and some clothes to throw in the dryer or some
clothes to fold. And just by doing those little things every day,
I feel like it also helps keep my house organized and clean with how many kids
we have and with how much there just is to do all the time.
