Slow Living Spring Vlog | Traditional Greek Village | Fasting Greek Donuts Recipe
Hello everyone and welcome back!
During the weekend, we visited a traditional greek village in Zagori. Monodendri is full of charm, with beautiful stone houses and peaceful cobblestone paths. One of these paths leads to the Vikos gorge which is a very popular destination for tourists. In Monodendri is also Rizarios Handcraft School where traditional looms are used.
After we returned to our home, I made some vegan donuts that we enjoy having with honey during Lent. They are simple to make, delicious and they remind me of my grandmother’s recipe.

Donuts
3 cups of flour
½ tspoon of yeast
1 ½ cup of water
1 cup of almond milk
2 Tspoons of olive oil
2 Tspoons of sugar
Oil for frying the donuts
Warm up the milk and the water in a pan and then put in a mixing bowl and dissolve the yeast. Add the oil, sugar and flour. Whisk until the ingredients are nicely mixed together and you have a thick mixture. Cover the bowl and leave in a warm place until it swells and blisters form. Put enough oil in a deep pan and wait for it to heat well. Wet a spoonful of water, take spoonfuls of dough and put them carefully in the pan. After they swell and turn brown, turn the donuts on the other side and then take them out with a slotted spoon. When you turn them upside down, do not leave them for much time because they will burn. Place on a plate with kitchen paper
Serve with honey, cinnamon and nuts.
