Alright, let's talk about skin allergies. One of the biggest problems that I see a lot of dog owners out there are dealing with.
I want to give you six of the best ways that you can treat skin allergies at home. Keep watching so you don't miss it.
How's it going? My name is Ruben. If you're new to the channel, this channel is all about the bull breeds,
killing the bad stereotypes, and becoming better owners. Now a little while ago, I asked you guys,
what is the one thing that you guys feel like you struggle with the most? And a lot of owners
said that they struggle with their dog having allergies,
specifically the short-haired breeds such as pit bulls and any other bull breeds out there.
They're having problems with it. And now I want to give you six of the best ways you can try and curing this at home.
But first, I want to say if you're experiencing severe or really bad allergies or your dog is,
I want you to take them to the vet right now and get them checked out.
This video is probably not for you if you're already at that level where you just have nowhere to go and
they're very severe and you need to get checked out immediately or your dog needs to get checked out immediately.
So this is just for at-home remedies that you could use, okay? Now, let's talk about allergies for a little bit. Allergies suck.
The skin problems in pit bulls can cause irritation that can either be mild or severe.
It can also cause a lot of scratching, intense scratching can lead to a hermatoma where the dog would need surgery.
It is said that pit bulls or blue dogs are more likely to have skin problems.
I've had my fair share of dealing with these kind of problems with Bo in one of my previous videos.
You can go and check out how severe it was. I'll put a link in the description.
But right now I'm gonna give you six ways you can help allergies and irritation right for home, okay?
So let's start with number one, which is coconut oil. Dogs who are suffering from eczema,
allergies, yeast infections, and even insect bites and stings can all benefit from direct application of the coconut oil.
Put coconut oil in the fridge or a cool dry place
so it turns completely solid for a quick relief to dry skin.
Massage the oil into the coat and skin where your dog are suffering.
You will notice that the dog's coat is improving along with their relief from the constant itching.
Another way that you can apply the coconut oil,
I've seen some owners melt it and pour it onto their dog's skin. Number two on the list is an oatmeal bath.
Bathing and grooming is going to offer much-needed comfort for your dog
that's in, you know, a lot of irritation right now or pain.
Using soothing ingredients such as oatmeal and the shampoos will help your dog's skin feel softer and will relieve the itching they feel.
Depending on the severity of your dog's allergies, bathing once a week will greatly improve your dog's condition.
Now, these are for the dogs that are constantly having breakouts.
You definitely want to keep up with their grooming and bathing so you're not having all of the dust and
possible allergens into their skin and coat where they start getting inflamed.
Number three on the list is having a better diet.
Your dog's diet might be completely overlooked if your dog suffers from environmental allergens.
But the more natural your dog's diet,
the better their bodies will be able to fight off and heal from allergies and external stressors.
If your dog is allergic to certain ingredients, you want to avoid these ingredients and replace them with something else.
Preferably, you want to change your dog's diet to something a little bit more healthier like a raw diet.
But you definitely want to
evaluate or examine the ingredients in the current food that you're feeding and make sure one of those ingredients is something that they're
breaking out towards. A raw diet is something I advise to help their dog with their allergies.
I've seen a lot of dogs get over these allergies just by a simple switch of raw feeding.
I have a free raw feeding guide.
There'll be a link in description where it can help you get started with raw feeding if you're interested in that. Again,
there'll be a link in the description.
Number four on the list is omega-3 fatty acids, also known as fish oil.
Omega-3 fatty acids are extremely beneficial with the dog's allergies.
These oils help improve your dog's skin and coat by keeping the natural oils present in the healthy amounts.
Omega-3s also work as anti-inflammatories and greatly reduce the intensity of the allergens.
There are many omega-3 fatty acids in the market.
You will want to look for something that works quickly to support a soft silky coat.
Minimize normal shedding and maintain the skin's normal moisture.
Number five on the list is Benadryl.
Benadryl is a great medication for use in dogs with mild to moderate allergies. Seasonal allergies, food allergies,
environmental allergies, and allergic reactions to snake insect bites all respond to Benadryl in most cases.
Benadryl is commonly used to treat itchiness in dogs
caused by skin allergies, and it also reduces many of the other symptoms of the allergies.
The recommended amounts to give your dog are two to four milligrams of Benadryl per kilogram of body weight,
two to three times a day.
Number six on the list is prednisone.
The first time I noticed Bo was having a skin allergy problem, the vet prescribed prednisone,
which is a steroid. Though the steroid could work really well for your dog's allergies,
some vets are against it because of the long-term effect of the drug.
Always ask your vet before giving any kind of steroid to your dog.
The only way you can really get your hands on this is if your vet prescribes it. Always ask your vet
what are the pros and cons of giving your dog this steroid so you know exactly what your dog is intaking.
You want to make sure there's nothing harmful to them,
and it's the right steroid that they should be taking that can help them with their allergies.
So these are at-home remedies that you could use.
I really hope that some of this works for you guys. If you guys want to see more on this topic and go more in-depth
on allergies that you guys' dogs are experiencing, just leave a comment below. If you want me to go in-depth,
I will go over some of the things that you could do
or even some of the things that vets
recommend you do or advise you to do. I could do further research if you wish on this topic. Other than that,
I will see you guys later. I'm out.
