You will save a lot of time and money from the mistakes that I made. The garage is absolutely
one of my favorite places to hang out. I just wish that it was as comfortable as inside my house.
Get insulation, we need to have it climate controlled, we need to redo the floors,
we need nice walls, we need to have it sealed off so it doesn't, we can clean it easily,
you know, be able to, you know, just make it feel more homey and that takes a lot of work and,
you know, a little bit of money and patience and we have to learn a few new things. So we're
Here's my carport and garage area. Luckily my cousin who I rent the house from was a car guy,
he set this place up just for that. So when I moved in this is what it looked like. Let's take
a trip down memory lane real quick of what it looked like when I moved in and we'll get caught
up with how it looks now and then the improvements we're going to be doing to it on top of what we
finished in this earlier stage. The studs which are the 2x4s were completely exposed on the walls
so we had to put in insulation, mount the drywall, use the mud to link all the drywall together to
make it look like one seamless wall. We painted the walls white and then we painted the ceiling
black. We used a paint gun which you can rent from Home Depot, the installation is from Home
Depot and the paint. So all the parts of stage one are from Home Depot. I went on Craigslist
and I found a guy named Don who had a listing who does garage insulation. So he's coming over,
we're going to do four inch spray foam in the ceiling and then I got to paint over that when
we're done. 115, it feels like 130 in here because there's no insulation and it just
gets hot like a swamp cooler doesn't even work. That wall is 110. Let's go up at the roof,
you can see the red dot, 136 degrees almost. The concrete outside is 135. Today's video is
sponsored by Karma Speed, our own community on the channel. We dropped some new shirts today,
they're live, check this out.
About a week later, this is what we're dealing with. I haven't put the lights back up. Now it's
time to get rid of all that mess along the edges. My dad's coming over, we're gonna go to town but
I do have a special tool. I got one for me and my dad. This is like a giant exacto knife. You can
only find this at Home Depot, they don't have it at Lowe's. What is it you're hoping to end up with
I guess? You want all this off the wood too? I'm gonna scrape it off the wood beams and then I just
want to have it look cleaner on the edge when we paint it. Roll up to Home Depot, hey I need the
blackest black for interior and flat finish. I also need to rent a paint gun. I happen to borrow
one from my girlfriend's dad, super clutch. Maybe ask around your friends if they have any. Thanks
Kevin, you da man. Wear a mask, go to town, paint the roof.
Floor maintainer, I'm gonna rent one from Home Depot. Will it fit in a Mustang? Yes.
When we look at these little blades right here, it almost looks like hard rock. This is just
going to absolutely shred whatever is on this concrete. I definitely think it needs paint stripper
before I continue. This floor maintainer is a ton of work. It's very exhausting but super rewarding
with how clean the concrete comes out. You're going to want to lower the handle pull to your
waist level or a little lower and that made it a lot easier to hold on to because you saw in the
beginning I was struggling with it. If you have a floor that had previous finish on it like I did,
then you can use some stripper and let it soak in. It really does let the floor maintainer do a lot
of the work.
So
so
sprayed out with water. I bought this Rust-Oleum clean and etch for concrete.
It made a sizzling sound. I'm not sure if it did much. At least just take water to it
and scrub it down with a broom and then blast it out with water again. Let it dry. You should be
good to go. Just be really good at vacuuming up all the dust. Just vacuum the garage one more time.
Put the red tape line down. Grab some multi-use red 3m tape. Not the stucco tape. The multi-use.
Ready to do the first coat but we're going to do the whole edge first with a brush. This is where
I went $200 wrong and bought some stuff that it wasn't bright showroom white floor type of
finish that I wanted. So we're going to put down two coats of this that I don't like. I'm not going
to show you what it is and then at the end we're going to do the good stuff that I want you guys
to use. My technique of rolling this on the floor is also me doing and not knowing. It's epoxy and
it dries really really fast so I started to panic even with thinner in it and just spread as much
of it as I could to get a base layer. This is where we got things right. We went from a porcelain
white to like a ultra pure white. So I'll show you the chemical in a little bit up close but you'll
see my dad doing one line at a time. That's what you want to do. You want to start the roller in
the middle. Spread all the paint so it can go from top to bottom and then you'll see me with
a little binny roller hitting all the cracks and the edges and going around the whole outside of
the room before he fills in the squares.
After the first coat you can see a little bit of lines but overall it feels really really
high quality. Nice to the touch but we're going to put down a second layer and maybe a third so
that this is as even as possible. This product that we're using that I will show you up close
very soon it's not something that you want to mix without wearing a respirator like I have on.
I also needed a respirator just applying it because the fumes are so bad. Especially when you
mix it though you're mixing the component A and the component B. When you are stirring it make sure
that you have a respirator on and hold your breath as well. You definitely don't want to breathe it
when the two are mixing. That is the most dangerous part of it the more we read up on it so be very
careful. You can find a respirator at your local Ace Hardware, Home Depot, Lowe's, anywhere like
that. You want to buy a 3M one with big filters on it. I'll leave a link in the description to
one that I recommend. This is pretty pure white. It's really bright in here. I have some paint left.
I have half gallon left so I'm going to try and add more what I have left to these two.
A full liner on the perimeter to make sure along the wall it looks good. If I have some left I want
to do in the corner over here because rolling toolboxes around and whatnot it would be good
to have that extra layer on there. Go to your local painter supply PPG Pythane Ultra the bottom
95-8001 screenshot the can up close. It's the ultra white base AB component two cans. Make sure
you get two to three gallons for a garage this size. I would buy three and then return what you
don't need because they don't have to add color if you are doing white. If you are doing color I
would start with two gallons. That blue can I just threw away is called xylene. You're going to want
to grab some of that from the paint supply store as well. It slows down the drying process when
you're laying it down by yourself. This epoxy likes to dry quick. If you add about half that
can into it this will help you a lot. This is the part that you're going to want to be holding your
breath for specifically and have a respirator on. It's mixing the component A and B, throwing
your paint grid in your bucket to roll your roller on and you're ready to go.
We're done. No you're not. Figured if we went this far you might as well repaint the walls
make them match the floor a little better and just refresh the whole garage. If we're going to go this
far let's just go all the way. Onto the walls we have a bare product. I'm going to show you the can
up close in a bit. If you want the paint code you want to get the same color but this product
specifically can be any color. It's paint but it's a bare product. It's called scuff defense.
Really cool just came out the guy had to like dig through his shelf of all this new stuff and
gave it to me at home depot so I mean it could be five months old or it could be two days I don't
know but the product this product right here is the scuff defense flat paint. This guy this is
new paint this is conventional flat paint so watch this I take my fingernail to it I have
scratches same thing nothing should be perfect for in the garage because if you look at the walls
there's black marks scuff marks from dragging things across you name it so I'm pretty stoked
to put this product on that will hold up better. Bare ultra white ultra pure white 1720 scuff
defense got it at home depot. We just finished that wall that corner all the way over to here
about we just have this wall left that was one gallon. I'm gonna open this so I would just buy
two if I were you and get some extra. Trevor is back. Walls are about done maybe hit a second
layer. Before we go back and enjoy the walls we need to have a new graphic made. Reached out to
Logan who helped me wrap the Focus ST and we're going to be working with on the Mustang as well.
He hooked me up with a new decal for the wall so this should look fresh it's a satin black 3m 2080
film. Next stop discount door and trim in Mesa. This is the baseboard and then I went with that
one that says in stock. 16 foot sections definitely need a truck and then we have to paint it. 48 bucks.
So that piece over there is 45 where you make a joint you put two 45s together so it's not
just a straight line you get a tighter fit so I had to figure out the length for this angle
that one's the opposite so I'm ready to cover that. Store installation kit they had this at
Home Depot as well only thing we have to do is measure the width. What's cool about this stuff
is it has the glossy side and then on the back it actually has lines cut out in it so that way
when we bend it to get it to fit it lets you fit it really snug in here. I've seen a lot of
people's garages where they have cut out and then they have to glue it on here and there's a gap
but this you don't have to have any glue it just bends in and has a nice finish.
The time to start enjoying it is now I've left one thing for us to do
that is pull the red multi-use tape. Look at that white line this has been so much work guys
so much time I hope this encourages all of you guys to make your garage better if you can.
On the to-do list this place is not done we got details we got to seal the joints over there and
along the wall so the baseboards look perfect. We're going to be mounting the AC over here in
near future it's going to probably be the next video it's going to be huge you're not going to
miss it the kit we got is completely DIY you don't have to have a air conditioning guy come out it's
awesome please don't miss that one. I'm thinking over here maybe like a 70 inch TV or something
in the middle we have our plaque the YouTube plaque and then I'm thinking like a light gray
vinyl of like all the logos of our sponsors that are on the channel all the time like Ksport and
stuff so that would be super cool. I want to build we're going to show you how a big like
wood bench right here that will look really nice with a white tabletop I can shoot some product
shots and whatnot and then maybe in the corner we have like a metal table to mount a grinder and a
vice grip I really need those things and then keep our toolbox and stuff over here. If you're new here
this rack right here is for vinyl so when we're wrapping a car we can put the whole roll of vinyl
right there. This whole area right here is a little dark so we're going to add more LED lights along
the way and these beams right here I'm going to paint them black so it blends a little bit more
probably spray paint this garage door opener the motor the gray part flat black so it also blends
in and then in the corner over here some sort of door or like plastic drapes kind of like Napa or
like a you know auto parts store or we just do traditional door I'm not sure and then get the
other kit for the insulation for the garage this stuff actually the door the garage door this stuff
makes the door way heavier than you think and I am so pumped on this kit that we didn't have to
use any glue or anything it just fits in there nice and it looks really nice it complements the
walls nice so this place really come together if you guys watch this along I appreciate it
don't forget the shirts dropped they are live on the website now the two new shirts available we
got a little hat restock and the other accessories are available so go snag one while you can before
they go away they're gonna go quick I'm excited for you guys to get them I appreciate the support
so so much if you're new here we're all about building confidence in the garage that's what
the brand Karma Speed is all about just being genuine honestly like if I can tell you guys
anything you know if you're wearing something with Karma Speed or Karma or anything related to
the brand and the community it's just being genuine that's what's been so awesome about
the private Facebook group that we have I'll have links in the description if you haven't joined that
it's just getting help and you know people not being annoying because there's so much hate and
all that stuff I don't even like talking about it's such a waste of time like just be cool that's
what this Karma Speed community is all about and learning everything we can about each specific car
and having fun with it and then modifying our garage too and I can't believe I'm standing here
when it's done and like how white it is in here like look how crispy the camera looks and I just
pre-ordered my first new camera and the first time in like four years it's exciting so that'll be
here in September I hope we're making everything more awesome while everything's kind of down
during Corona so I encourage you guys to get after it while you have this extra time and do things
like I am where the car stuff has just been on pause I can't really move forward it doesn't make
sense financially it's all these parts are like costing a ton of money because it's all coming
out of my pocket now so it's going to be a little slower than normal but at least I can get this
kind of stuff done now that I have more time so it's been awesome so don't be discouraged by
everything going on things are going to get better I just looked at a Corona chart today and it was
like cases in Arizona are like up above and then it's like going down so I'm like we're almost there
getting close so stay up I appreciate you guys stopping by checking out the vids and
have a good rest of your day night wherever you're watching from I appreciate you
