Welcome to Moritei-en in Chofu. Started in 1898 and completed in 1903, this was the home of the last Daimyo of Chofu.

Mori Mototoshi chose this place to build his home following his accession to the peerage and the abolishment of the Shogunate. Completed in the Shoin-zukuri style, this house is largely intact, and open all year, except the New Year Holiday, to the general public.

Tea is available and you can walk the gardens as well. I have a separate video on the garden coming, please stay tuned.

Although personally, I much prefer this house. If you ever have the chance to come to Japan, and you love old Japanese houses, this house is a must see!
