Jiang Ziya was a poor man prior to meeting King Wen of the Zhou Dynasty. Jiang’s ancestors were nobility and helped Yu control the great flood in China. However, his family’s social status had declined by the time Jiang was born. Jiang Ziya made a living as a beef butcher. Besides opening a wine shop, Jiang barely made money and had to live with his wife’s family. He was eventually kicked out of his wife’s home for not being able to earn enough money. To make an income, Jiang tried to sell flour. He went to the town market early in the morning with a 30 pounds bag of flour. No one showed any interest in buying his flour the entire day. Ziya looked up at the sky and sighed, “Oh my God!” Before he could close his mouth, a bird flew overhead and pooped right into his mouth. Shortly after, something else happened.
