Lyric:
Now be-fore the Feast of the Pass-o-ver,
When Je-sus knew that His hour had come that
He should de-part from this world to the Fa-ther,
Hav-ing loved His own who were in the world,
He loved them to the end.
And sup-per be-ing end-ed,
The dev-il had al-read-y in-duced Ju-das,
The son of Si-mon Is-ca-ri-ot, to be-tray Je-sus.
Je-sus knew that the Fa-ther had put all things in-to His hands,
And that He had come from God,
And was re-turn-ing to God;
Rose from sup-per and laid a-side His gar-ments,
Took a tow-el and gird-ed Him-self.
Af-ter that, He poured wa-ter in-to a ba-sin,
And be-gan to wash the dis-ci-ples’feet,
Dry-ing them with the tow-el that was wrapped a-round Him.
Then He came to Si-mon Pe-ter.
Pe-ter said to Him,
“Lord, are you go-ing to wash my feet?”
Je-sus an-swered and said to him,
“What I am do-ing you do not un-der-stand now,
But you will know here-aft-er.”
Pe-ter said to Him,
“You shall nev-er wash my feet!”
Je-sus an-swered him,
“If I do not wash you,
You have no part with Me.”
Si-mon Pe-ter said to Him,
“Oh, Lord, not my feet on-ly,
But al-so my hands and my head!”
Je-sus said to him,
“Those who have had a bath
Need on-ly to wash their feet,
Their whole bod-y is clean.
And so you men are clean,
Though not eve-ry one of you.”
For He knew who was go-ing to be-tray Him,
And that was why He said not eve-ry one was clean.
