If you are like me, sometimes your body is tired but your mind is still on.
So tonight, I want to share the five simple things I actually do to fall asleep faster
and sleep better. No fancy gadgets, just gentle habits that help me wind down.
First, a calming tea. Most nights, I will have something caffeine-free like chamomile tea,
rose tea or relaxing bedtime blend. For example, tea to sleep tight, dreamer kind of style tea.
Anything with no caffeine. No honey for me because I try not to eat after 6 to 7 p.m.
I like letting my stomach rest overnight, then I eat again the next morning around 9, 10, 11 a.m.
So you can call it a light form of intermittent fasting. It makes my body feel lighter at night.
Quick tip, don't drink it too late. If I drink tea right before bed, sometimes I ended up waking up
to go to the toilet at night. So I drink it early enough, then I can start to wind down.
And if you love stronger herbal tea, you can try them too. Just choose what feels right for you.
Second, skincare. But not that complicated kind for me. It's simple and soothing. After I shower,
brush my teeth and wash my face, I do a face mask or a night cream or face oil depending on the day
and then lip balm. That's it. My routine is usually micellar water to remove makeup,
then a gentle cleanser. Recently, I started using a soft real silk face wash and I love it. I love
how gentle it feels and it gets rid of a lot of dead skin. This step is small and simple,
but it's like you're telling your face muscles, oh, we are done for today.
Third, I set up the room for sleep. I dim the light and make sure there's good enough airflow,
enough fresh air to breathe comfortably. If it's cold outside, I'll shut the window,
but I still make sure that the room doesn't get stuffy. And here's something personal. I recently
moved most of my plants outside of the bedroom and I sleep so much better.
My husband even joked that the plants talk too much at night. He also said,
plants are more yin and might steal a bit of your yang energy from you. It is his theory,
but I can tell you my real result. After I moved the plants outside of the bedroom,
I definitely sleep better. So if your room feels a little busy, try simplifying and see how you feel.
Fourth, and this is the most powerful one for me, meditation. After tea, after skincare,
after I prepare the room, I sit down and meditate. And honestly, after that, I just knock off.
My mind stops chasing things. My heart feels softer. My body feels lighter. It's so relaxing
and it's such a good way to transition into sleep. Even a few minutes helps. It's like giving your
nervous system a warm blanket. Fifth, this one is simple, but it's everything. Close your eyes.
I put my phone away and I stop taking new inputs. Once my eyes are closed, no scrolling,
no extra information, just me. Sometimes people like night podcasts or bedtime stories,
and yes, they can help you feel sleepy. But for me, the most important thing is shut your eyes.
Because once your eyes are closed, your brain finally understands,
okay, it's time to go to bed. And the body says, okay, it's time for me to rest.
So that's my routine. Tea, skincare, dim lights with fresh air, meditation, and then eyes closed,
phone away. And of course, this is just what works for me. Everyone is different. If you try it,
don't force all five steps at once. Start with one or two tonight. What about you? Which step
helped you the most? And if you try my method, did it work for you? Do you have other suggestions?
Let me know in the comments. Good night. Sleep well.
