Thank you for joining us tonight. I'm Arlene Richards. The death toll from floods in Nepal
and Tibet continues to climb. More than 670 people are now confirmed dead,
and nearly 3,000 remain missing, including 90 Americans. Chinese authorities are reporting
seven deaths and more than 550 missing. The Chinese Communist Party is also being accused
of censoring footage of floods in Nepal and Tibet. A former member of the Nepali Parliament responded,
saying, quote, What are they trying to hide? The International Campaign for Tibet is raising
concerns over aid while accusing the CCP of downplaying the disaster by deleting related
content on social media. Meanwhile, foreign journalists face travel and interview restrictions
when trying to gather their own information. President Trump says the U.S. is taking control
of 65 billion barrels of oil from Venezuela's reserves, calling it the biggest oil deal in
history. In a true social post, the president saying the deal will more than double U.S.
oil reserves and help lower gas prices. The president also says the deal will come at no
cost to taxpayers. The announcement comes as U.S. gas prices remain high and the conflict with the
Iran continues. It also follows the capture of former Venezuelan dictator Nicolas Maduro,
who was taken into custody by U.S. forces about nine months ago. Secretary of State Marco Rubio
says the deal is good for both the United States and Venezuela. He says it will bring nearly $100
million in private investment to Venezuela and create thousands of high-paying jobs.

The Department of Homeland Security is flagging a major vulnerability in U.S. elections.
Chinese-made parts are inside many U.S. voting machines. Secretary Mark Wayne Mullen says that
be a way in for hackers. NTD's Washington correspondent Jack Bradley reports.
Parts of many voting machines used in the U.S. are actually made in China,
and Homeland Security Secretary Mark Wayne Mullen says that poses an election security risk.
He says companies that make more than 80 percent of U.S. voting systems use Chinese-made components,
writing in a recent letter to the White House Transparency Task Force,
if a component is tampered with during the manufacturing, it could serve as a point of
entry for hackers, allowing for the possibility of synchronized attacks across multiple machines
and jurisdictions. The vendors told Congress that they use these Chinese parts because they have no
alternatives. Last month, Mullen went even further, saying what foreign adversaries could do
once they hack into these machines. We know that they can access what they consider the key
to the back of these machines. We know that they can change voter registration
and your vote. Intelligence files declassified last month claim the Chinese Communist Party
worked to produce thousands of fake driver's licenses to let non-citizens vote for Biden,
along with China's stealing, buying and hacking of voter data belonging to more than 200 million
Americans. The People's Republic of China carried out what is believed to be the largest compromise
of election data in history. The DHS is now requiring states to implement stricter voting
security measures in order to receive federal grants from the Homeland Security Grant Program.
That includes dropping systems that count votes off of barcodes and QR codes, moving to equipment
that takes hand-marked paper ballots and running a random manual audit of at least 5 percent of
ballots after every federal election. Analysts say this one is the most significant. That's
never happened before in the United States. It's a big deal. It requires every jurisdiction to go
to their paper and do a 5 percent sample, which by the way is way more larger than any pollster
uses. So if these states want to be reimbursed for the November midterms, they need to implement
these security measures. Jack Bradley, NTD News, Washington. At the end of summer recess,
lawmakers will return to Washington D.C. with a pressing to-do list funding the government digital
asset regulation and plans to probe birth tourism. NTD's Melina Weiskopf has a look ahead.
House lawmakers return to Washington next week with a top priority, preventing another government
shutdown. Leadership plans to quickly tee up a vote on a temporary government funding bill.
The Senate-passed stopgap would keep the government running until a month after the
midterm election. Senate Republicans negotiated with Democrats on the final bill, which is
supported by the White House. That's despite a provision that would block a Trump administration
proposal, giving political appointees the power to approve or disapprove federal grants.
It's potential to politicize the grant-making process and harm small rural communities,
our university colleges and non-profit laboratories, our hospitals, our families,
and biomedical research in general. Lawmakers are also pressed to finalize the national defense bill.
Meanwhile, Senate Leader John Thune vowed to take up key issues that remained unresolved before the
week's long recess, including bills to regulate cryptocurrency, kids' online safety rules, and a
third party-line budget resolution. The White House's requested third reconciliation bill would
include elements of the Save America Act, a grant program to incentivize states to strengthen voting
requirements. Republicans are also aiming to probe birth tourism. And I believe that there's a
compelling legal case to be made that these businesses that are facilitating this process,
facilitating somebody coming in to the United States to give birth, lying on their immigration
forms or on their visa forms, are engaging in a form of criminal conspiracy. And that's what
we're going to get to the bottom of. Chairman Gill said four inexpectant mothers traveling for this
purpose come predominantly from China and Russia. Reporting from Washington, D.C., Melina Wisecup,
NTV News. A new federal report is raising questions about the deadly explosion at a Washington paper
mill. Investigators say the chemical tank that failed was deemed unfit for continued service
nearly 10 months earlier. NTD's Christina Corona brings us more. A federal investigation is raising
new questions about a deadly May 26 explosion at the Nippon DynaWave packaging company paper mill
in Longview, Washington, that killed 11 people. But a new federal report released Friday says the
chemical storage tank had been found not fit for continued service nearly 10 months before it
catastrophically failed. According to the U.S. Chemical Safety Board, inspections found significant
thinning in parts of the tank's steel shell, warning there was a high likelihood of failure
if the problems weren't corrected. But investigators say the tank remained in operation and was not
repaired before the May 26 disaster. When it failed, roughly 900,000 gallons of an extremely
hot chemical known as white liquor flooded the facility. The massive wave crushed vehicles,
damaged surrounding buildings, and poured into areas where workers were holding morning meetings.
11 employees were killed while several others, including a firefighter, were injured,
some suffering serious chemical burns. The Chemical Safety Board says its investigation
is still ongoing and it has not yet determined the official cause of the tank failure. The company
says it's cooperating with investigators and remains focused on supporting the victims'
families and employees as it works toward reopening the facility. Christina Corona, NTD News.

A big announcement coming up this Monday for farmers and ranchers. That's according to the
Secretary of Agriculture who says the administration will cut red tape for meat processing. President
Trump says the top four meat processors are making life miserable for farmers and ranchers
and pledged to break the monopoly. And joining us now is Steve Lucey, a fifth generation cattle
rancher. Thanks for joining us Steve. Thank you for having me. Now Steve, first off your reaction
to this upcoming announcement. How helpful will this be to you? Well it could be very helpful to
me if if what we hope gets you know what we hope needs to be done gets put in place. So when he
made that first announcement on Friday on his truth social he said you know we're going to allow
the farmers to butcher their own meat for food. We've always been able to do that. That's not
anything new. What we need to see happen is us to be able to butcher that meat and then sell it at
a farmer's market or sell it to our neighbor or you know even someone in a neighboring state
without government intervention and regulation. And that's that's what we can't do right now.
It's illegal to do that without USDA inspection. So that's why we have to go through either one of
the big four packers. A lot of our beef goes there or if you do sell some locally like I do myself
you have to go through a USDA inspected processor and that can be time consuming and cumbersome and
hard to get appointments because there's not many of those around our rural areas.
Now you talk about selling across the state but Secretary Rollins says they'll expand ranchers
ability to sell across state lines. So is this the kind of red tape that hurts your bottom line?
Well yeah because currently we can't do that. So my family we've been here for five generations
and we still butcher and process our own meat for our own consumption at home for our families.
But we can't take a package of that meat and sell it to anyone down the street or down the road
or especially across the state line. So if if they do what they say they're going to do
it's going to open up a humongous part of this business for people like me and for consumers
because every beef that doesn't go through one of the big four processors that takes that takes
away some of their control and that's what we need. We need to put the control back in my hands
and back in your hands as a consumer. Now in response to this announcement the Meat Institute
has said it's critical that expanding processing opportunities does not come at the expense of food
safety adding that this is why federal and state inspection requirements exist. So how concerned
are you about this? Well I think that's something that each individual who who dives into that
process is going to have to look at themselves but I am not concerned really about that myself
because honestly some of the things that we've seen the government do in the last few years I mean
especially since 2020 you know do you trust everything that they do either or would you
trust talking to somebody like myself you can call me up on the phone and ask me what I do you
can even see the product you know there's there's many people out across this country like myself
and the other thing that we have going for a system like that is you don't have to buy that
from me. If you don't if you're worried about that and if you don't think it's somehow not safe
you don't have to buy that you have a choice to go buy that from one of these big processors.
I mean some of us don't really have the trust that we used to have in that system either so
I know what I'm doing on my ranch I know that it's clean and healthy and good because I eat it my
family's eaten it for years so I'm not worried about that. I understand that consumers would be
and not everybody's a nice actor either there's there could be bad actors come into this
situation so we we have to keep an eye on that but again it's consumers choice right.
Well in terms of prices for consumers speaking of consumers could cutting red tape lead to
lower prices at the grocery store? Yes I believe absolutely so and one of the big reasons for that
is if more people buy beef directly from a rancher then the grocery store has to compete with that
so if they're not selling enough meat they're going to have to lower their price or their
meat's going to set in their counter and rot so I think it will I think it'll take a while
but I think once you get a system in place where people have a choice whether to buy it from
a person like myself or from a big chain or whatever I think that all of that creates
competition and healthy competition creates a healthy market and it also creates possibility
for people to lower the price when the supply is up so I think it will help I don't know how
soon it's going to help because we still have a low cattle herd so we're going to have to do our
part and raise more cattle for the consumer as well. Now Steve a report by the investigative
Midwest says that state and local governments have given over a half a billion dollars in
tax breaks to big meat processors over nearly 20 years with Tyson Foods getting half of that
so governments do this to draw in more processing plants but is this hurting ranchers and farmers
like yourself? Well yeah I mean if you look at Tyson specifically they've received all that tax
break right they've received all that federal money that's taxpayer money that came out of
our pockets at some point and they received all that and then recently here in Illinois they just
closed the plant they just up and closed one day and said hey we're not going to keep this plant
in Jocelyn, Illinois open they butchered 3,000 head of cattle a day and now that is gone from
our system so people out here that have feedlots they have to travel many many more miles and
the transportation raises the cost of the product so I don't see how that's a good situation I mean
like they've kind of raped the American taxpayer for a lot of years and then they turn around and
control the price of the beef that goes back to the store they control the price of the beef that
comes off of my farm they tell us what they're going to pay us and then they control the price
as it goes to the store so then they control your price so essentially with 85 percent of the
product under their control we don't have a lot of options unless we start to break them up a little
bit. Well hopefully this new initiative will help farmers such as yourself Steve Lucy thank you so
much for coming on. Thank you I'm hopeful it will. And coming up in tennis with the U.S. Open set to
start where does Novak Djokovic rank among the contenders? Dave Martin joins us with a preview.
I debate all day it's what I do but there are some things that are undebatable
like your mental health my own mental health I was in a dark place when my brother passed
away in a car accident I've never been more devastated than the day I lost my mom
I was depressed miserable in ways I never imagined I reached out my sisters came
my pastor my therapist they helped me get through it I found that the more I spoke up the healthier
my mind became the chaos that was in me began to subside I was more focused clear when you love
your mind you can go so much further that's not up for debate find mental health resources at
loveyourmindtoday.org. My mom and dad were traditional Asian parents now my father would
go to work before I woke up in the morning and then he would come home too tired to play with me
I tell my son I love you every single day and my dad has never said that to me not because he
doesn't love me but because culturally it was uncomfortable for him so I teased him the other
day and I said how come you never say that to me and he said you're too old now now that he's a
he says I love you to my son every time he sees him my advice to all the fathers out there
forget the material things forget the cultural restrictions
they grow up way too fast for you to waste even a single precious minute or moment
we said we'd never give into a meltdown never leave the house looking well out of our sight
cars get hot fast and kids can be at risk before you leave the car always stop look lock
my graduation was something I will never forget
people like you and me sometimes may have doubts in ourselves but I feel that everything's possible

got a new house
and now for your sports news we're joined by the one and only sports guy Dave Martin what an intro
you're the one and only at NTD that's true I actually am nobody else there does sports
exactly what would we do without you huh I wonder that sometimes I know so today is very nice
outside but it's also a good day to watch college football because the 2026 season is kicking off
today is that right yeah I'm thrilled about this of course because of course I love college
football so we got eight games on today here in the opening weekend now next week is going to be
opening weekend for the other you know 100 plus teams out there but already this afternoon
North Carolina beat TCU 15 to 10 in a game played in a rainy day in Dublin Ireland and that's a much
needed win for Carolina head coach Bill Belichick after after going just four and eight last season
in his first season there I think it's safe to say there are high expectations for him in the
college ranks after winning six Super Bowls in the NFL now also today 14th ranked USC beats San Jose
State 42 to 26 Trojans the lone ranked team in action today I think actually USC head coach
Lincoln Riley somewhat of a similar position as Bill Belichick USC always has high expectations
they get a much needed win today meanwhile in an ACC game that's close to being over Virginia
leads NC State 31 to 8 in the fourth quarter Cavs you remember actually had the best record in the
ACC last year Wolfpack meanwhile finished in the middle of the conference with a 4-4 mark
we got more games tonight 7 p.m eastern time Stanford hosts Hawaii while New Mexico State
plays at Florida State and then at 10 p.m UNLV hosts Memphis so a whole lot of well as I said
eight games going on today and then everyone else plays next week so everyone else beat the full
week this is almost like week zero in college football but like you said everyone likes to
stay home and watch college football on Saturday and this is the first Saturday to do so well I
mean I guess it's too early to say who are your best picks in the teams right because we're at
round zero but we got a few games going on you know got any well you know I'm just gonna say
the most likely the the champion is either gonna come from the Big Ten or the SEC and that's of
course not going out on a limb at all because those two are the dominant dominant conferences
in college football Ohio State won it two years ago Indiana won it last year I'm not gonna put
anything past Indiana because I was shocked that their 16-0 season last year you know
almost out of nowhere two years ago this team was a doormat in the Big Ten then they win it all
it's the third straight time I know right it's the third straight time the Big Ten is the one
untitled but of course the SEC they've got Georgia they've got Alabama they've got they've got Texas
they've got Oklahoma there's a lot of powers there so I don't think it's I don't think I'm
going on a limb at all and saying it's going to be from one of those two conferences so you can
ask me that in a couple weeks maybe I'll be a little more specific specific I'll wait a couple
weeks on yes yeah let me do a little a little more looking all right so let's turn to tennis
because U.S. Open starts tomorrow right so who are the top picks for that because I think Yannick
Sinner is out right no Yannick Sinner so of course right now third ranked Carlos Alcarez is the
favorite to win it as expected but not by much now DraftKings has him at five to two odds to win it
right behind him though second ranked Alexander Zverev is at three to one odds followed by Novak
Djokovic at seven to one now once Sinner pulled out last week with an injury Alcarez was the clear
favorite but he hasn't played a match in more than four months he had that wrist issue that
cost him the French Open and Wimbledon so I think that's what's keeping him from being an overwhelming
favorite which he probably would have maybe been six months ago in the absence of Sinner now elsewhere
on the men's side I'd love to see Novak Djokovic win his 25th Grand Slam of course at age 39
no one has ever won a major at that age or older so it would be quite a thing if you did that
on the women's side number one ranked Irina Sabalenka is the betting favorite at just over
three to one odds and I'm so surprised she's won the last two U.S. Opens all right behind her
Coco Gauff at nine to two odds the fourth ranked Gauff won it in 2023 right behind her
Iga Sviatek at 11 to 2 odds now Sviatek won it the year before in 2022 but she has not made it
past the quarterfinal since and as you said Arlene play starts tomorrow now of course the first week
of the U.S. Open the big news is always you know if there's been an upset because of course you
always have the best players playing the lowest ranked then we get the second week then you're
starting having the great matchups once you get to the quarterfinals or semifinals and the finals
so but I like I love the U.S. Open it's a lot of fun people are going to that event now for the
women Sabalenka is that how you say that yeah and Gauff didn't they go head-to-head last time
in the U.S. Open you know I don't maybe they did go ahead I kind of thought they did I can't
actually remember I just know the Sabalenka's won the last two the year before it was Gauff
and the year before that it was Sviatek because I was wondering if Gauff had changed her strategy
are you seeing her playing any differently this year than previously since she did win it once
I'm not sure what she's changed but actually Sabalenka and Gauff and Sviatek and none of
those three actually have had great seasons this year it's kind of a it's kind of a mystery I don't
know what's going on with them or they're just waiting for the U.S. Open especially Sabalenka
and Gauff they play very well in the hard courts here at the U.S. Open Gauff of course this is her
home country she's already talking about how many ticket requests she has had in fact I think there
was a story about her mom coming out and telling giving a public a public announcement to all the
relatives asking for tickets requests you know saying we don't have enough basically and you
know if I even it was it almost sounded like if we haven't heard from you a while you're probably
not getting a ticket from us you know you can't can't sit in your box you know go go find a go
pay for your own ticket or something like that well then of course that might be why she might
want to play a little harder right and try to win since she's in her home I would think so of
course sometimes it makes it from what I hear it anyway it makes players feel a lot more pressure
to do better so it's kind of it's kind of it's kind of that it's kind of a double-edged sword
thing there it seems like so I don't know maybe you may get used to having all those people in
your box you play better who knows right all right we're going to move on to NFL now we've got some
news here we got the CBS's lead analyst Tony Romo facing more citations from his arrest last month
and on suspicion of operating a vehicle while under the influence have they announced whether
he'll return they have not I'm guessing it's going to be a delayed announcement but he has
a court appearance scheduled for Monday September 21st so I'm guessing it won't be before that date
now the three citations were added on Thursday just this week one was one for it was for
possessing open intoxicants in a motor vehicle another was for unsafe passing on the right
and the first offense uh operating while intoxicated now we already received a citation
for refusal to take a test for intoxication after arrest now Romo he's been their lead
analyst for CBS since 2017 teaming up with play-by-play announcer Jim Nance and sideline
reporter Tracy Wolfson in his place they're gonna have another former NFL star J.J. Watt
taking over Romo's place at least in the interim it sounds like now a spokesperson for Romo said
in a statement quote Tony takes full responsibility for his actions and has taken proactive steps to
ensure that this isolated civil matter is properly resolved end quote now Romo generally regarded as
the best analyst out in the game uh I think I'm sure he's gonna be back I would guess he'll be
back by October is is my guesstimate he's uh I mean he's so good at like conversation with Jim
plus his like he pretty much guesses plays in advance but people love that about him sometimes
he can actually hear them audibly on the field and he can tell the audience well I know what play
this is going to be because many of the offenses are kind of copied at least the lingo is copied
that really the first couple years that really stood out I'm looking forward to seeing him back
I'm guessing maybe by October we will have Tony Romo back in the booth well hopefully it is just
a single incident people make mistakes um you know I hate to see his career end because of this
yeah yeah yeah you can if you saw there if you the the video behind me was him uh getting pulled
over that was a body cam footage of him uh I guess at the end he refused he said he did not want to
take the breathalyzer uh but this was in Wisconsin it was like 35 miles from where he grew up now if
you actually remember he went to Illinois State University was undrafted into the NFL ended up
four-time Pro Bowl quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys and who know I mean he was very successful
there who knew he was going to be even better as an NFL analyst I thought the guy was great so
yeah I'm hoping I'm hoping the same too yeah so now we're going to move on to baseball we've got
pitcher Shohei Otani supposed to come back on Sunday but he's been injured so what's the latest
there yeah the latest is the Dodgers really aren't sure as it was that's from what I can tell anyway
my guess is the delay has started which is scheduled for tomorrow Otani has been dealing
with knee soreness and a biceps issue it has not pitched since July 3rd apparently did not feel
great after his bullpen session yesterday where he threw just 20 pitches there now Dodgers manager
Dave Robertson said quote I just don't see everything getting to 100% by the end of the
season but there's a lot of pitchers that are not 100% and still viable so again it's just not an
exact science end quote now the Dodgers they don't really need to have Otani be great on the
mound during the regular season you know for what's left of the regular season because they've
got a huge lead in the NL West they've got the second best record in baseball but they will want
him to have they will want him come playoff time on the roster so they definitely are going to want
him to start before that so we'll have to see today Dodgers lost at the Detroit Tigers 2-1
Otani was in the lineup as a hitter though as he has been really through this pitching injury
elsewhere in baseball Boston won the first game of a double hitter at Detroit this afternoon
six to nothing they'll play again later tonight is 7 15 eastern time after winning game one last
night the New York Yankees still maintained a two-game lead over the Red Sox in the ALEs
both teams though look like they are headed for at least one of the wild card spots in the playoffs
it's just a matter of where of course this is such a great rivalry neither wants to be you know below
the other even though they're not in first place right now so who's been filling in for Shohei Otani
who's been filling in uh they have well they have uh Tony Gonsolin all right I can't remember his
name stumped you there you stumped me there the Dodgers their their pitching staff though they
have a wealth of talent on their pitching staff so they're not they're they're probably their
biggest we've been weak weakness is their bullpen their starting pitching is still excellent so they
well they trade for Tarek Skubel already I remember a couple weeks ago the two-time
signing award winner he's been partly I guess filling in for Otani and he's he's of course
one of the best out there Dodgers have a wealth of riches though in their starting rotation really
and in their lineup so they're not hurting right now well I mean could they still win in the
playoffs without Shohei Otani I mean you're saying you have a good pitcher yeah they could
two years ago Otani missed the entire season pitching he was still a great hitter though like
he still won MVP of the league just because he was such a great hitter he did not pitch the entire
season Dodgers won the 2024 World Series they won last year as him partly pitching and mostly
hitting so this year they thought they were going to get a full they were hoping to get a full
season of him pitching they've gotten about half a season at this point so they can still do it
without him I'll say that that's how loaded they are he's not irreplaceable I guess he's not
completely irreplaceable you're right all right well hopefully he'll get better soon
beyond the mend I hope so too thanks Dave for the update thank you Arlene all right

an unlikely issue is emerging as a sticking point in u.s mexico trade talks it's about
cheese washington says a new trade agreement between mexico and the european union could
restrict american producers from using familiar names like parmesan and feta on cheese sold in
mexico so the dispute is part of a broader list of non-tariff trade barriers the u.s is pressing
mexico to address here's more the u.s government has sent mexico a list of at least 15 non-tariff
trade barriers one of the sticking points is surprisingly cheese mexico imports cheese
mainly from the united states however the e-mexico agreement would extend a lot of protections for
european cheeses and restrict the names that american producers are allowed to use on their
labels the united states has long defended the use of what it calls common names for cheeses
so these are labels such as manchego such as parmesan which are products that it exports
into mexico the eu however defends the names of cheeses originally from some of its countries
as protected denominations of origin so for example they say that parmigiano-reggiano can
only be produced in certain regions of italy that feta can only be produced in some parts of greece
so u.s cheese exporters say that it's confusing for consumers to read a label that says something
like imitation feta or asiago style cheese when that cheese is essentially the same and they say
this is hurting their sales european producers however argue that the cheeses made in the u.s
are completely different but they have no way of controlling the quality and that if cheeses are
sold under these labels it's impacting their own brands walmart will pay 50 million dollars to
the doj accusing the retailer of fueling a nationwide opioid epidemic by unlawfully
dispensing prescriptions from its pharmacies the settlement comes after the doj sued walmart in
2020 for allegedly violating the controlled substances act according to the complaint
walmart knowingly filled thousands of controlled substance prescriptions that were not issued for
legitimate medical purposes the lawsuit also alleged walmart failed to report hundreds of
thousands of suspicious orders to the drug enforcement administration as required according
to the complaint walmart's actions helped fuel the prescription opioid crisis walmart settled the
case without admitting liability and uber has rolled out a new feature that's designed to give
families peace of mind the ride share giant now offers a live stream option that lets parents
watch their teenagers trip in real time the feature is part of uber's teen accounts once
activated the live stream will be shown through the driver's front facing camera according to uber
both the driver and the teen will be notified when the video is being watched recordings are
encrypted and will be deleted after 14 days unless they are part of an investigation the feature is
currently available in nine u.s cities including atlanta orlando and phoenix uber plans to expand
the feature to other markets in the coming weeks from amazing animal portraits to a furry friend
being rescued with the help of cheese that's right cheese we begin overseas in london it's a

london at the natural history museum now back across the pond in los angeles a cargo plane
video shows the boeing 737 partially catching fire as it landed at los angeles international
airport dhl who chartered the plane says luckily no one was hurt and thanks to cheese no dog was
hurt in the rescue taking place in this last story when police in tampa florida were called
to save a small dog stuck in a drain officers put cheese in a bucket and lowered it down
hoping the dog would take the bait and jump in sure enough the cheese did the trick and the very
gouda boy hopped in and the officers pulled the bucket up to safety animal control checked out
the furry fella and he's already been adopted and that's the news for this evening thank you
for tuning in i'm arlene richards good night
