If the high school football season ended today in Washington,
here's how I think the seeding committee would see
the top five in the 4A state tournament.
Number one, there's really no debate.
It's Puyallup.
Wins over Rocky Mountain, Idaho, Bellevue, Lake Stevens on the road,
and last week against Sumner.
The Vikings are undefeated, and they have the state's best resume.
Number two, Lake Stevens.
Loaded with talent, they have
the state's most dynamic dual threat quarterback in Blake Moser
and a win over Graham-Kapowsin in week one.
Number three, Graham-Kapowsin.
What could hurt GK in the eyes
of the committee is strength of schedule,
but I think this team passes the eye test.
Losing by five on the road to Lake Stevens
in week one showed it's a title contender.
One of the state's best quarterbacks in AJ Tuivasa,
and he's got a bunch of legit playmakers to throw the ball to.
Number four, I have back-to-back 4A state champions Sumner.
6-1, wins over Eagle in Idaho, Mount Tahoma, Emerald Ridge,
and I think a two-point loss to top-seeded Puyallup doesn't hurt them.
I think it showed while they're a little younger this year,
they're still as dangerous as ever.
Number five, undefeated Skyview, a win over Glacier Peak and
two blowout wins over rival Camas.
Everyone thought this defense would be pretty good going
into the season, but the offense has been equally dangerous.
I have an article up right now
projecting which South Sound 4A, 3A, 2A,
and 1A teams I think will be top 10 seeds when the state
tournaments begin. You can find it and all my work at the News Tribune.
