POUGHKEEPSIE – There was an overflow crowd at the Bardavon Opera House in Poughkeepsie Sunday night as Democratic Party leaders held a Get Out the Vote Rally for Congressman Pat Ryan and all Democratic candidates on Tuesday’s election.
Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez said New York will set the example for what is possible for the entire country.
“I feel so deeply, deep in my bones, that it is the State of New York that will be leading the country,” she said.
Ryan, meanwhile, blasted the Trump administration for the DOGE cuts, attempts to set up ICE detention centers in Orange County and shut down VA patient beds at Castle Point.
The 44-year-old lawmaker had a list of issues the Democrats plan to tackle in the new year.
“We’re going to impeach Pete Hegseth. We are going to end this war. We are going to bring our troops home. We’re going to bring gas costs down. We are going to bring fertilizer costs down. We’re going to bring home heating costs, which are up 60 percent, as the temperatures drop,” he said.
The rally brought out several Democratic incumbents and challengers. State Attorney General Letitia James, Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart Cousins (D, Yonkers), Senator Michelle Hinchey (D, Saugerties) and Assemblywoman Sarahana Shrestha (D, Esopus) joined with Ocasio-Cortez as they, too, seek re-election tomorrow.
