COLD SPRING- A group of philanthropic residents in Cold Spring and Philipstown is determined to keep Putnam County’s tourist capital in top shape despite the thousands of out-of-towners who visit western Putnam each weekend, many leaving their trash behind.
Under the leadership of Melia Marzollo, an army of volunteers has been cleaning the Main Street tree gardens, weeding benches along with a second group organized by Jia Jia Ye, wearing protective gloves, discarding unsightly trash between runs of the community’s contract with the Royal Carting Company.
Cold Spring Mayor Kathleen Foley noted Saturday: “That is love! It really has taken a village to get through this beautiful, stunning, colorful, and hectic, crowded autumn season. These are problems many small towns only wish they had. We keep solving through them, together because in Cold Spring we are POTS or part of the solution.”
