MONTICELLO – A Liberty man is scheduled to be sentenced in January 2027 following his conviction of sexually assaulting his stepdaughter from the time she was 5 years old until she was 16.

A Sullivan County Court jury convicted Joseph Wallace of three counts each of predatory sexual assault against a child and rape, all felonies.

Prosecutors alleged that Wallace raped the child on July 1, 2010, when she was 5 and home alone with him, and again on Oct. 7, 2010, while her mother was in the hospital recovering from the birth of his son.

The sexual assaults continued from May 31, 2012, to June 23, 2017.

In the early morning hours of Sept. 7, 2020, he raped her in her bedroom before being caught by her mother.

“The strength and courage of this victim to come forward and tell her story is nothing short of impressive and inspiring. For far too long, this defendant manipulated and sexually abused this young and fragile victim,” District Attorney Brian Conaty said. “I hope this conviction provides the closure she has been waiting for her entire life. The jury’s verdict holds the defendant accountable for conduct that represents one of the most disturbing and reprehensible crimes that can be committed against an innocent and vulnerable victim.”
