NEW CITY – A 27-year-old Haverstraw man, Anthony Mitchell, was convicted following a three-week trial in Rockland County Court, of shooting and killing 17-year-old Treynahel Cineus, and the wounding of his aunt, Rose Cineus, as they were parking their car at the Meadowlanes apartment complex on West Eckerson Road in Spring Valley.
The shootings, at about 2:30 a.m. on July 8, 2022, involved other suspects as well, said District Attorney Thomas Walsh II.
Mitchell faces a minimum of up to 15 years to life and a maximum of 25 years to life on the murder conviction. He is scheduled to be sentenced in December.
“A 17-year-old boy’s life was stolen in a senseless act of gun violence, leaving a family to endure a loss that no verdict can ever undo,” said Walsh.
The jury acquitted Mitchell of two counts of criminal possession of a weapon.
