GOSHEN – Two men who carried out a murder for hire in the City of Middletown back on March 11, 2019, will be going to prison for a long time.
Douglas McFarlane, 27, of Middletown, was convicted after a jury trial on Friday, October 23, of murder. He faces up to life in prison without parole.
His accomplice, Dijion Constantine, 26, also of Middletown, previously pled guilty to murder and awaits sentencing in November.
The man who hired them, Sheldon Paul, 42, also from Middletown, was convicted of murder in a separate trial, and faces 25 years to life in prison when sentenced in January 2017.
Paul had paid the other men to kill the victim in his Knapp Street apartment, which they did by shooting him in the head.
Prosecutors argued that Paul paid McFarlane and Constantine $10,000 and a pound of marijuana to commit the crime.
The murder was in retaliation for what Paul believed was a burglary at his home days earlier. He later realized that he had been wrong about the victim being involved in the burglary at his residence.
