ALBANY – When the Cuomo Tappan Zee Bridge was constructed, E-ZPass motorists who live on either the Rockland or Westchester side of the Hudson River at the bridge were given a further discount to cross the span.
Now, Orange County residents, to the north of Rockland, will be receiving the same ‘local’ discounted tolls.
State Senator James Skoufis (D, Cornwall) sought the provision in the state budget that was adopted last summer.
“It’s a big win. Everybody is talking about affordability; this is literally keeping some money in people’s pockets, and the letters and emails have started going out to Orange County E-ZPass tag holders,” he told Mid-Hudson News. “The expectation is the discount is going to be activated at some point in November.”
E-ZPass residents from Orange County will see a 20-percent discount with the toll going from $7.25 to $5.80 per trip with no limit on number of crossings.
