HIGHLAND FALLS – The new Highland Falls Preserve along the Hudson River is open. The 32-acre preserve is the first public riverfront park in the Village of Highland Falls.
The land is owned by Scenic Hudson and managed by the village, said Mayor James DiSalvo.
“It has beautiful hiking trails, magnificent views, beautiful flora and fauna and just overall very, very positive new attraction for our community,” he said.
The preserve is walkable from area homes and features a scenic loop trail of just under a mile.
Many volunteers, including West Point cadets, pitched in some 500 hours to get the preserve ready for the public, moving over 19,000 pounds of stone to build 26 steps up to the picnic area.
