NYACK – The annual memorial ceremony for the Brinks armored truck robbery will occur on Tuesday, October 20 at 4 p.m.

The ceremony will be on Mountainview Avenue at the entrance to the New York State Thruway in Central Nyack.  At that location 45 years ago on October 20, 1981, Nyack Police officers set-up a roadblock in response to a gunpoint robbery at the Nanuet Mall.

Brinks security guard Peter Paige was shot and killed during the robbery.  Some $1.6 million was stolen in the heist by self-described revolutionaries.

Nyack Police Sergeant Edward O’Grady and Police Officer Waverly Brown were both shot and killed at the roadblock.

The ceremony is open to the public.

The keynote speaker this year is going to be Rockland County Undersheriff Robert Van Cura .

Mountainview Avenue will be temporarily closed to vehicular traffic during the ceremony.  Please anticipate traffic delays in the area and use an alternate route if possible.
