NEW CITY- Repairs are underway on the Congers Lake Trailway, bringing residents closer to once again enjoying a complete loop around the popular Rockland County recreation destination.
Town of Clarkstown Supervisor George Hoehmann and the Town Council announced that construction began this week to address structural issues that forced the closure of a section of the trailway in April 2026.
The affected section, between trailway markers 47 and 54, was closed after several support pilings separated from the boardwalk decking, raising concerns about the structure’s stability.
The repair project will add support structures beneath the boardwalk decking to strengthen the trailway and restore access to the closed section.
According to town officials, municipal engineers spent the summer developing a construction plan and obtaining the necessary determinations from the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation. The town recently completed the bidding process, allowing the contractor to begin work.
The contractor has a 30-day contract to complete the repairs, with the project expected to be finished by mid-November.
Once the work is completed, residents will be able to walk the full loop around Congers Lake again, restoring access to one of the town’s popular outdoor recreation areas.
“We’re thrilled to have the Congers Lake Trailway restored for residents to have full access around the lake once again,” Hoehmann said. “The Congers Lake Trailway is one of the crown jewels of our park system and we’re incredibly happy that residents will be able to fully enjoy all it has to offer again in the fall season.”
