MONTICELLO – A mobile grocery unit will offer free groceries to residents from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Oct. 19 outside Assembly Member Paula Kay’s district office at 461 Broadway in Monticello.

Kay partnered with Access: Supports for Living to bring the mobile grocery service to the area to help residents experiencing food insecurity.

Access staff also will be available to help people with active Medicaid connect with services, including housing, transportation, employment, mental health care and addiction support.

Kay said the initiative is part of ongoing efforts to address food insecurity in Sullivan and Orange counties.

“No one in Sullivan or Orange County should fear where their next meal is coming from or have to decide between eating and keeping the lights on,” Kay said.

Kay has supported local food assistance efforts through Thanksgiving and back-to-school meal giveaways, a seasonal Comfort Closet at her district office, and funding for organizations that provide food assistance, including the Federation for the Homeless, A Single Bite, Cornell Cooperative Extension and Sullivan 180.

Kay also thanked Access: Supports for Living for bringing the mobile grocery unit to Monticello and the village for helping support the effort.
