COLD SPRING- Cold Spring may be the tourist capital of Putnam County and one of the most heavily traveled tourist destinations throughout the Hudson Valley yet those arriving by Metro North trains are often at a loss in finding places to visit.
Thanks to Cold Spring resident Alex Cheek, tourism has taken a giant leap. Working collaboratively with the Cold Spring Village Board, Cheek has designed pro bono the Wayfinding program—a series of signs strategically placed in heavily trafficked areas of the village to help move visitors more efficiently on streets and sidewalks.
Cold Spring Mayor Kathleen Foley said the initial part of the program will be followed by Part II that will “cull existing directional signs that are outdated, no longer relevant, and/or confusing, then replace them with new signs. This will be a tremendous visual improvement on Main Street, for residents and visitors.”
Foley commended Cheek for being “incredibly generous with his time and talents. I am grateful indeed for his work,” she said, adding: “There are so many gifted and generous people in our little village.”
