NEWBURGH – The Newburgh City Council next week will approve a new five-year contract with Axon Enterprises for body-worn cameras for police officers.

Police Chief Brandon Rola said there are built-in safeguards for the use and storage of the information gathered.

“Our body worn cameras would not be stored on our own serves, that’s stored on the Amazon government cloud, but none of this is shared,” he told council members Thursday night. “For Axon when we have to share our records and body worn cameras with the district attorney’s office for prosecution, they actually need a full log-in and credentials to get that, and we h ave to accept and approve and share that.”

Rola was also able to negotiate a new contract with Axon at a considerable annual savings.
