POUGHKEEPSIE – The 19-year-old man who shot and killed Gabriel Mosca, a 22-year-old Hyde Park resident, in broad daylight on Garden Street in Poughkeepsie on October 3, 2025, changed his plea to guilty on Monday, ahead of a murder trial.
Facing an overwhelming amount of evidence against him, Anthony Taylor pleaded guilty to murder and two counts of the violent felony of criminal possession of a weapon, in exchange for a sentence of 20-years-to-life in prison.
.
Taylor and his victim were believed to be friends at the time Taylor killed him.
Taylor admitted in court to shooting Mosca, despite dozens of bystanders being in the area of Garden and Main Streets when he fired his gun, striking Mosca several times, before fleeing on foot. The fleeing felon eventually made his way to Maryland, where he was hiding at a family member’s residence. City of Poughkeepsie Detective Brad Sukeena worked with the Hudson Valley Safe Street Task Force and the U.S. Marshals Service to locate Taylor. Federal agents picked him up on October 16, 2025. Poughkeepsie detectives traveled to Maryland and retrieved him following his extradition hearing.
District Attorney Anthony Parisi said, “This was a brazen, cold-blooded killing carried out in broad daylight, at rush hour, on the streets of the City of Poughkeepsie. The Defendant chose to arm himself with a loaded firearm and intentionally take the life of 22-year-old Gabriel Mosca in a public place where countless innocent people could have been put at risk.” Of Taylor’s actions, Parisi said “That kind of lawlessness is intolerable.”
In addition to the 20-years-to-life sentence for the murder, Taylor was sentenced by Judge Jessica Segal to three-and-a-half years for each of the two gun charges that will run concurrent to the murder sentence.
