LAGRANGE – The Town’s 2027 Tentative Budget will be presented to the Town Board at a special meeting on Monday, October 5, at 7 PM.  The council will also consider extending the six-month moratorium on Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).  The Town Council passed the initial moratorium in May 2026.

New York State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli has released a report indicating that the town is susceptible to fiscal stress.  The Comptroller’s report gave the town a fiscal stress score of 50.8, which is elevated when compared to the average score of a Mid-Hudson town of 6.5.  or managed the general fund balance in accordance with Town policy. As of December 31, 2022, the general unassigned fund balance was $3.3 million, or 51 percent of the following year’s budgeted appropriations, exceeding the Town’s fund balance policy limit by more than $725,000.

A public hearing for the preliminary budget is expected to be scheduled for November 4, 2026.
