ALBANY – New York State Attorney General Letitia James has released bodycam footage from several police officers involved in the June 27, 2026, officer-involved shooting that claimed the life of a 17-year-old Wappingers Falls youth.  Members of the New York State Police, Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office, and the Village of Wappingers Falls Police Department were involved in the shooting that killed Oscar Granados Colindres, a suicidal teen who, armed with a knife, charged the police negotiator.

The Attorney General’s Office of Special Investigation (OSI) is conducting a full investigation into the shooting.  All of the footage released by Attorney General James can be found here.

The initial report of the suicidal person was broadcast to the police at 1 a.m. on Saturday, June 27. Upon arrival, officers encountered Colindres on the ledge of Wappingers Creek bridge in the village, with a knife in his hand. Officers, including one fluent Spanish-speaking officer, attempted to speak with him for about 50 minutes. Calindres abruptly jumped from the ledge to the sidewalk, running toward the negotiating officer while holding the knife.

Multiple officers fired their service weapons, striking the teen.

At 1:55 a.m., Calindres was transported to a Poughkeepsie-area hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

The Attorney General’s Office of Special Investigation (OSI) assesses every incident reported to it where a police officer or a peace officer, including a corrections officer, may have caused the death of a person by an act or omission. Under the law, the officer may be on duty or off duty, and the decedent may be armed or unarmed. The decedent may also be in custody or incarcerated. If OSI’s assessment indicates an officer may have caused the death, OSI proceeds to conduct a full investigation of the incident.
