WAWAYANDA – A motorcycle accident on I-84 eastbound Tuesday morning in Wawayanda injured a motorcyclist who allegedly struck the rear of a tractor-trailer around 9:11 a.m., and state police are seeking the public’s assistance.  The wreck shut down eastbound I-84 between exits 15 and 19 while the State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit investigated.

New York State Police responded to the serious personal injury crash that injured 26-year-old Zachary Roque, who was operating a 2025 Triumph motorcycle eastbound on Interstate 84 when he attempted to pass a tractor-trailer and struck the rear of the 18-wheeler. Roque lost control of the motorcycle, was ejected, and struck the guardrail.

Roque was transported to Garnet Health Medical Center in Middletown for treatment of injuries.

According to state police, the tractor-trailer continued east after the collision. Investigators say the big-rig driver may not have known the motorcycle made contact with his trailer.

The tractor-trailer is described as being all white. No additional identifying information is available at this time.

State Police Middletown Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) is attempting to identify and locate the tractor-trailer and interview any witnesses to the crash.

The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone who may have witnessed the crash or has information regarding the involved tractor-trailer is asked to contact State Police Middletown at (845) 344-5300.
