EAST FISHKILL – Wappinger Central School District (WCSD) students from John Jay High School in Hopewell Junction and Roy C. Ketcham High School in Wappinger are revved up about participating in the fourth year of the “Winners Circle Project,” which provides them with an opportunity to learn while building custom vehicles.
The students are back in the garage as part of the non-profit, STEAM-focused initiative that gives high schoolers real-world industry experience by building, testing, and marketing performance vehicles.
After successfully completing six Factory Five kit cars over the past three years, the students are now shifting gears to tackle their newest challenge by building the Factory Five 1935 Hot Rod Replica Truck.
Beyond hands-on engineering and assembly, participants direct their own marketing campaigns, manage media presence, and prepare for performance evaluations. WCSD Superintendent of Schools Dr. Dwight Bonk said, “We are so proud to offer the Winners Circle Project program to our high school students as it provides them with skills necessary in the emerging careers in our region, especially in career and technical education, and skilled labor.”
At the conclusion of the program and competition, the student-built vehicles will hit the block and be auctioned off at Mecum Auctions, with proceeds supporting the continuation of this transformative hands-on educational program.
