ROCK HILL – Adolescence shapes who we become, but for some young girls facing severe trauma, it can be a time of overwhelming vulnerability, including the risk of suicide.

Evergreen Meadow Academy in Rock Hill was founded to change that trajectory, providing the care young women need to heal and thrive. A groundbreaking ceremony was held Saturday, and for founder and President Stacey Millman, launching the project marks the beginning of safety, hope and new futures.

“Today, here, this is deeply personal. Knowing that soon, as Adrienne said, no New York girl, no community girl, will have to leave her home to get the care that she needs,” Millman said.

Assembly Member Paula Elaine Kay was instrumental in securing funding for the project.

“No young woman, no girl should have to deal with depression, anxiety or feelings of helplessness on their own,” she said. “We have a place they can come to, and Evergreen Academy will become the cornerstone of our mental health infrastructure for generations to come.”
