A crash on the Taconic State Parkway in Putnam Valley snarled traffic on a rainy day

HUDSON VALLEY- Winds and rain from a strengthening nor’easter lashed the Hudson Valley Saturday as the storm crawled up the coast, flooding low-lying areas and knocking out power due to falling tree limbs and broken utility lines.

The immediate region was spared from the worst of the storm, which battered the Big Apple as well as the Jersey and Connecticut shore.

Most activities were cancelled Saturday due to the rain and winds.

Numerous skidding accidents were reported, and fire departments received calls to assist homeowners and businesses with flooded basements.

Rain is forecast to continue today.
