BEDFORD- Nine-one-one calls reporting a naked man acting irrationally sent troopers to the I-684 rest stop in Bedford. When patrols arrived, they found the suspect acting in what a police spokesperson described as being unreasonable, exhibiting signs of impairment.

Troopers administered standardized field sobriety tests to Virgil Naveda, 56, of Darien, Connecticut before he was taken into custody on charges of public lewdness.

Troop K Public Information Officer Krystal Paolicelli said an inventory search of Naveda’s impounded vehicle uncovered 66 grams of gamma-butyrolactone (GBL), 49 grams of butanediol, 7 grams of methamphetamine, and numerous items of drug paraphernalia.

Naveda was charged with one felony count of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance along with misdemeanor charges of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Public Lewdness, and Operating a Motor Vehicle While Impaired by Drugs.

He was arraigned in Bedford Town Court and released without bail pending a September 30 hearing.

The top charge carries a maximum 15-year state prison term if found guilty.

On September 24, 2026, Naveda was arraigned in the Town of Bedford Court, released on his own recognizance, and directed to return to court on September 30, 2026, at 3:30 p.m.
